No vacancy -- for now.....

Hi everyone

Well, I'm sitting in my living room surrounded by sixteen shelties! Yes 16! Barbara, my Co-Director, is currently in New York welcoming a brand new grand baby girl. She won't be home for another week. Angela, a foster mom, also has gone to Up State New York to visit her baby grand son! So I'm baby sitting for her dogs as well as the two dogs she is fostering for us. I'm "IT" for another week when it comes to taking care of shelties...There are more to come in to rescue but sadly the Lakeland Sheltie Spa and Retreat has a no vacancy sign for at least a week longer. The only ones that I will take are the ones that are in danger. Most of the ones waiting are owner surrender dogs so they are safe for now. We'll regroup and start taking them in as soon as these two vacationers come back home where they belong.
Now, when can I have a vacation....? Hmmm I'm thinking of a long trip on a nice sandy island sipping on a drink with an unbrella in it.. How does that sound?

I also have taken in a foundling kitten. The three litter mates were found along side a busy road five weeks ago. Their eyes weren't even open yet. Two young people from my church found them and took them home to nurse them. I took over their care when they were three weeks of age. Sadly little Riley an orange tabby didn't make it, but both of his brothers Gabe and Sparky are doing great. They are six weeks old now and eating canned cat food and using the litter box for potty. I will be keeping Sparky and Gabe has already been placed in a good home. I know, I need another animal like I need another hole in my head but he's so special and when one feeds by bottle and watches them grow into a sweet little ball of fur one just can't say no!

Holy cow, 16 Shelties!! I'm kinda speechless. I've always thought you were a marvel, Judy but this is above and beyond. I'd say you definitely deserve a nice vacation, after all, turn-about is fair play, eh?

My bet is, you sleep well after all that - well, if the dogs let you that is!!!

Seriously, though, it's sad there are so many needing homes.

Congrats on the kitten, - it will be interesting to see how Sparky takes to dogs. My cat Mario acts dog-like. He comes when I call him!

SIXTEEN?!?!?!?!?!?! My gosh you are super woman!! Thank goodness these ladies that had to leave have someone like you to step up though...not too many people would do that sort of thing. Kudos to you and grats on the kitten! <3

WOW! Sixteen!!!!!!!!!! Do they all have to have meds too? I can't imagine keeping meds straight for 16 Shelties! WOWOWOWOW!!!!!!!!

And congrats on the new baby kittum. Gotta love them!

All those dogs and they all get along! That is pretty amazing since they don't normally live together. Your vaccuuming arm must be getting pretty tired. Congrats on the kitty.

wow- that is a lot of dogs in one place:eek2:
we had fun visiting for one day with the many pups at the gathering- but I only had to really worry about my 3 and not the other 28 dogs......

of course, Callie is a challenge all by herself these days:winkgrin:

Um, wow!!!!

And I thought 2 dogs and 1 hedgehog was a lot (okay, it was mostly the hog). 16?!?!? I hope they're all getting along well enough.
I think we should count the cat at half, so 16.5. :) I love kittens. Wish I could have one. My last one gave me asthma (or triggered my asthma induced allergies). :(

You definitely deserve a vacation after that....without the dogs. Or maybe not so many.
