Not going poop for days at a time

I hesitate to call it constipation because he doesn't even crouch down or show any sign of having to go.

The problem started a few weeks ago, he didn't go to the bathroom for 3 days straight, and I was on the verge of bringing him to the vet but I tried out some plain canned pumpkin and a few hours later he finally went. His stool was pretty good, not diarrhea but not like hard little rocks either. Then over the next week or two, he'd go to the bathroom fairly regularly but his stool was hard and small like acorns, and I feel like he should have been producing more for the amount of food he was eating. And now we're back to not going at all- today's the third day. We go on three 30-45 minute walks a day, and usually he went either in the morning or the evening, but now...nothing. It's like the food disappears into a blackhole in his stomach lol.

There's been no change to his diet, he's been eating homecooked with the occasional addition of RMB (raw meaty bones) for 2 years now, although he hasn't been given any bones in the past few weeks because of this situation. He's been eating stuff like cooked sweet potatoes, canned pumpkin, salmon, an egg and organ meats like heart or liver once or twice a week, and obviously muscle meats like chicken and other staples of a homecooked or raw diet. I've also tried adding plain yogurt and a bit of cooked veggies like broccoli to the mix but still no poop!

I'm going to pick up some of those digestive enzyme probiotics from Pet Smart today, but I don't know what else to do or what the problem could be. He's completely fine otherwise- goes pee normally, has a good appetite, is energetic, no vomiting, etc.

I agree, a vet visit should be in order!
Let us know what the vet gives you for advice!
Good luck!

Well we just got back from our evening walk and Day 3 seems to be the special one because he went. Stool was good, not hard and small like previous times. I phoned my vet about it and she said it likely isn't a blockage because he's been having bowel movements and isn't throwing up after eating.

Not really sure what to make of it to be honest!

Sometimes too much fiber can have the same effect as not enough. The bowel becomes desensitized, and constipation results.

I go through this with Deska, and yes he can hang on for 3 days, although it's usually 2 days. At one stage I was having big problems with it because he was booty scooting rather than pooping. It started when he had diarrhea so I think he had a sore bottom and decided he didn't want to poop anymore. Presently he's getting an itchy butt, which we're still trying to work out why, and doesn't like to poop. I probably sound stupid but now every time he poops I tell him 'good boy', even if he isn't having bottom issues. Seems to be working, for the past 6mths he only hold on if it's raining.
