Toffee all of a sudden ate part of the baseboard?! My wicker chair, new suede leather pumps from Europe *sigh* and ... oh yes and the rug!?
Back to basics, yes, AND know it really is just a phase :rolleyes2:
In that time I reallllly learned that I had to tire him out BEFORE I went to work, made for a better homecoming in the evening when he was too pooped to do too much nonsense... obviously I moved the wicker chair after a while.. uhm the structural integrity of that chair was forever compromised, LOL

What, someone needs to tell Diva! :mad::lol: Just last week she shredded the TP. I have to admit that the first time she did it, it was pretty funny to see her running down the hallway with the TP trailing behind her. The 4th time not so funny. My house is a maze of baby gates.

I see that one of your questions went unanswered. Our opinion: We crate puppies at least the first year, then we assess whether the dog is ready and has earned the right of freedom in one room. If the little guy has proven himself trustworthy, then for one year, again at least, he will be allowed to stay in our bedroom while we are gone. At any time in that year, the little guy chews up something or gets into mischief, he goes into the crate for a little while. The crate is NOT punishment, it is for his safety. At the end of that year, then we assess again, and decide if he can have the run of the house.

Remember this is for the pups safety FIRST. Young dogs are foolish and uneducated. There are wires and small things that can be swallowed and plants and stairs and so many things that they can get hurt on when not being watched.

A size #200 wire crate is the correct size for most Shelties. They will get to the point where the crate seems a little small for them, but they sleep usually while they are crated.

I would definitely crate her when you are not around. I still keep Chloe crated when we are not home, just to keep her safe. I would feel horrible if she got into something when I was away, and I couldn't be there to help her. Chloe is 15 months.

When Bacca was about 1 year old, I graduated him to an Xpen, with his crate inside. Made me feel better about leaving him. He still could not get into trouble, but allowed me to keep water for him without danger of him spilling it in his crate (he has a soft-sided one).

At 19 months, my boys still do not have free roam of the house. They are baby-gated into my kitchen/family room (after a careful check on the floor each morning for ballpoint pens, which are Indy's favourite chew toy!
 
I wouldn't give full run of the house at 7 months. She's too young and could potentially chew on something dangerous.

Mine probably got full run of the house around her first birthday. I started out with the first week I had her of confined to a crate for short periods while I was gone. Then I progressed her to an area of the utility room. Then I gave her full run of the utility room. Slowly I would let her have the run of the house while I did something for short periods of time while I was still home but just outside. I would always come back and praise her for being a good dog.

When she was consistent in my short times that I was just outside, I started leaving her out when I was actually gone for about 20 minutes. One of the few times she gets treats is when I leave. So she always looks at this as a good thing that I'm leaving.

Again she was close to a year, and you should go with how well your pup does when she has short periods of freedom. If she slips up, you go back to a previous step.
 
My dogs still don't have full range of the house when I'm gone. Most likely never will. The older 2 are confined to the spare bedroom with a babygate up across the door. Nothing is in there but their beds, the treadmill and a TV. Diva is still crated. She may get to be loose in the bedroom in a year or 2, when I'm confident that she won't chew the wood work.:smile2:
