Number of dogs at a kennel

As I am doing more research about breeders, I came across some breeders' websites numbering the dogs they had in their kennel. Some listed having as many as thirty dogs.

My question is as I look for a good breeder, should the number of dogs they have in the kennel influence my decision? My guess would be an ideal breeder would have a smaller number of dogs to make sure future litters recieved the individual attention they need. But perhaps a larger kennel wouldn't be an issue depending on how many persons were working the kennel?

I looked through the sticky on breeder guidlines and didn't see this mentioned. Thank you for your help!
 
I don't think there's any "magic number" that separates a responsible breeder from an irresponsible one. A person can have only one dog and neglect it.

Your best bet is to actually visit the breeder's home and see where and how s/he keeps the dogs. Do you like what you see? Do the dogs seem well-adjusted and happy? (Some barking and carrying-on is to be expected - but the dogs should appear confident and bright-eyed.) Are they well-groomed? (Dogs are dogs, and they probably won't all be absolutely pristine - but they should be tidy and mat-free, with short toenails.) Is the kennel building clean and well-organized, or does it look like a bomb went off (and/or smell awful)? How are mom and the puppies kept? Does the breeder have hired kennel-help or a spouse who helps with chores?

If the breeder won't even let you have a look at the kennel and the dogs, walk away.

I've known people who have pristine kennels of 30+ healthy, hale dogs. It can certainly be done. But you need to go and look with your own eyes and see what the conditions are at a prospective breeder's place.

I don't think you can discount it, but you certainly want to know how these dogs are socialized. The only way you can do that is to visit yourself and ask alot of questions.

My first question is: where are the puppy's raised? Bacca's breeder raised them in her own bedroom! I loved that saw it with my own eyes!

If you don't feel comfortable with the answers, then walk away
 
Like Bacca's breeder, the one we got Mikos from has the puppies born in her bedroom and raised in her kitchen. I really liked that as well.
