AnnaBelle,

This weekend I am getting a new sheltie. A sheltie like you, because you were so excellent, so loving, so pretty, so smart. I love the breed because of you. I watched you grow from a scared, scrawny girl to my loving companion. You never let me down. I think of you everyday. I have two paintings of you, and they will always hang in the place I call home. But more important than external pictures of you are the pictures in my heart. You are my heart dog. Because of you, I will open my heart to others. I can never replace you, but I can love a new pup that needs me. You know how I need her too.

The torch shall pass on...but I will never forget you. I loved you more than I loved myself. Thank you for being my lovely dog.

I re-read your post twice with tears welling up in my eyes. You know the new puppy will have an angel named Annabelle looming right over her shoulder.

So touching!

The babies that leave us for the bridge can never be replaced, but I think the greatest tribute you can give them is to open your heart and home to another sheltie in need. When my first sheltie Samantha passed, I swore I would only adopt from sheltie rescue from that point on so they would have the same loving home she had. My precious Katie is now 14 - so far happy and healthy. My boy Laddie is 5, so he will be my comfort when the time comes, but I will bring another wonderful sheltie girl into the fold as well.
Our condolences on your loss, and hopes that another sheltie "child" will help ease the pain.

I am sure Annabelle loves her letter and is happy you'll be giving Daisy a wonderful and loving home just like you gave her. I'd like to think she brought the 2 of you together.

I'm sure she's barking her Thanks. For her life, and for allowing another a chance of a life.
