Our 91/2 year old leaking urine, put on Proin

We took our 9 1/2 year old sheltie, Jasmine to the vet for leaking urine last week. They ran the urine and it was fine, except for being a little dilute, it was an afternoon sample after she'd been drinking. Any ways they also did a senior blood panel and everything came back good. So they put her on prion 25mg, 2xs a day. Our 13 year old sheltie, Mandy has been on prion for over 6 years and it works great. Jasmine has been on it since last Thursday night, she has only leaked once, but she's been drinking like a fish, since she's been on it, and been asking to go out a lot. Anybody else have any issues with Proin causing the dog to be really thirsty. I looked it up online and have found quite a few posts where it says it can be a side effect. She doesn't have any issues at night, holds it for over 9 hours.
 
Maybe at some point you will be able to wean her down some...maybe call the vet and give them an update.
 
The vet said she would call in a week to 10 days to see if it was working. If I remember with our other sheltie, it did take a couple of weeks to work fully. Than hopefully we can cut down some. She just leaked all over the couch tonight. We have our other sheltie cut down to one 25mg every other day and it works great.
 
Update on Jasmine on Proin

Just talked to the vet, she said to stop the Proin. She has heard of problems in some dogs taking it and having excessive drinking. It should take 48 hours to get out of her system. If it isn't better by Friday, to give her a call and go from there.

We skipped Proin and did chiropractic instead - it worked for my dog after trying many things - I did not want to use Proin after reading about it's side effects, etc.
 
My 3 y.o., Ruffles, tends to leak as well for no apparent reason. I started using NaturVet Cranberry Relief powder supplement and it stopped the leaking completely. You use a loading dose sprinkled on their food for a short time and then give it once a week. At one point I ran out and didn't reorder and she began leaking again. I won't make that mistake again! I am so sorry. I don't have any experience with that med, or leaks. Wishing all the best.
