Our little gem..Jasper

I just have to identical length leads that I hold grip-like in my hand (palm down, and fingers around the loops). I find that with that I can use either my forefinger or my pinkie, to check the speed of either dog and redirect.

The two of them pretty much got into tune with each other anyway, so I did need a coupler or other fancy gadgets to get them walking together.

Personally, I would spend your money elsewhere. But that's just my own experience.
 
Any ideas~ I must be missing signs

Ok..Jasper is now almost 11 weeks old,and I know the weather has been cold,rainy,pretty much crap..

But this little devil will not poop outside. He can be out for what I think is long enough,but he will come right in here and poop on the floor.

So I know ya'll are thinking not long enough,but it's been dang cold out,and i don't want him getting sick or something.

He has got very good about just playing,having a good time,so I keep watch of him from the door for 20-25 minutes.

I pretty much know just when he's gonna go.he is one to go like within 10 minutes of eating,always first thing in the morning,and about 9pm at night.That one is the big one of the day,for some reason.

I don't go outside with him anymore,just watch.In the few times I have walked back in the house,I re-check again from the window so I have a visual on him.

I do know Trapp never pooped on the floor half this much,he pretty much did all his business outside.We had piddle issues,but not poop in the house.

so that's one thing..the other is poop eating,I mean he will have a blast eating S***.If he goes here in the house,and I don't catch him,he will pull himself up a chair and have him a second meal if I let him..dang its gross~(if he could pull up a chair)..:biggrin2:

I did get some stool eating pills today in Walmart,but should I just ask the vet for something?Its that bad,I have to do something.

I must be missing signs or something,and I never thought I would ask for help in the housetraining process,but I'm a bit puzzled~

Toffee took a while to house train too! I found that I actually had to take him for a little walk every time, instead of just letting him out. Go figure as soon as I head out down the street he'd poop every time on neighbour's lawns, half a block up the street. It became routine.. you may want to try that without the other dogs, because he probably gets distracted and forgets business when he is following Trapp around, etc...
 
That is exactly what happened to Deska with housetraining. He wouldnt poop outside and I think he was about 3mths before I saw any progress. I was going nuts! He didnt seem to correlate going outside to pee with going outside to poo. He also had this preference for pooping on concrete (better than the carpet). We had really bad storms as a pup so he hated going outside too. I even trained him on puppy pads but he would only piddle on them.

All I can say is I put him on a really strict schedule to regulate the poos, took any inside poo outside and put it on the ground, and I also didnt let him see me go to the toilet just in case (I was getting desperate).

Even today Deska likes privacy to poo, and he likes sitting on things like he is sitting on a toilet, so I do wonder...

Cant help with the poo eating - just hope he isnt a licky dog!
 
Well this morning,they ate breakfast at 6:45.Actually all the dogs were up the first time at 5am,but I just let them go out to potty.I let them be till Jasper woke up again at 6:30,let them all out,then fed them.

They were let out again.Jasper & Trapp played for a bit,then out again(1 hour).

When they came back in,I took Jasper and put him in his crate,which is where he is now.

Just before I put him in there,he looked like he may have needed to go,so I took him out,and watched,but all he did was play.(half hours worth).

So I brought him in,and put him in his crate.I'm thinking he must have gone,cause he is sound asleep right now,and it's almost 8am.
No messes on the floor this am,as I was determined to make sure he stayed out longer intervals.

Mission today: To have one full day of no indoor poop cleanups! Ask me later how the plan unfolded..:smile2:

Nope,just a cuddle bug!

We will be introducing the toothbrush very soon though~:wink2:
 
What I did with my puppies is take them out for 10-15 minutes, if they dont go potty they go back in their crate for 10-15 minutes then back outside repete until he goes outside. It is a long pain in the butt process, but I find shelties catch on pretty quickly.

Well that is pretty much what I am doing,when he is playing with Trapp.Jasper is always watched over when he is playing here in the house.I don't crate them if they are being good,and playing.But as soon as I see signs of wanting to go,I scoop him up and out he goes. I may do this more times than others.

I know he's gonna get the drift of things sooner or later.But Brian & I both said last night we never had poo issues with Trapp.
Then again,when Trapp came home,it was still nice & warm outside,so we were outside a great deal of time,so Earnie & Trapp could play.
 
Hi Michele, just wanted to tell you what really has worked for me. I train my dogs to the commands "go piddle" and "go poop". You can actually use any words you want, some people say "be quick", or whatever is short. When you see him start to go (outdoors), start saying the command, then when it happens, tons of praise and the occasional treat. I also always went out with them and kept saying the commands, to try and avoid them just deciding to play around instead.

Also my girls caught on that the sooner they were done the sooner they got to come back in which is what they wanted.

You may also try using one particular area of your yard instead of the whole yard. Take them to the same spot every time and say your magic words.

I can't tell you how helpful this has been when it's raining, or we are traveling. If we are leaving for an evening out, I can take them outside, tell them to go, and they will at least pee on command. Then I know they are OK in the house for hours.

Mally as a puppy learned to go on walks. To this day, he does not like to go #2 in our yard. Don says Mally thinks our yard is an extension of our house. Since Mally was a puppy, I have praised Mally when in goes, saying Mally's a good boy going pee pee outside or Mally's a good boy going poo-poo outside. Sorry for all the detail, I do have a tendency to baby Mally, the praising him has worked.
