Our mattie is having problems

Our Hearts Are Breaking
The news from our vet could not be worse. Mattie has 4-6 weeks to live. She has inoperable kidney cancer. One kidney has already stopped functioning. I couldn't be there at the vet's office due to being non-ambulatory right now from foot/ankle surgery so my husband went. He said he didn't really ask the vet how much pain he thinks Mattie might be in now. That is so scary to me because I don't want her to suffer. When my husband got home she came running into the house looking all happy to be home and all I could do is sob. My heart is breaking for our beautiful champion Wintercreek Aranray's Heartsong. She came to us after she had attained her championship and produced two litters. It was time for her to go to her forever home and that was with Ron and I. She's only been with us for 2 1/2 years but she has such a special place in our hearts. I've been through this before many times, it never gets any easier. The hardest part right now is that Mattie can't control her bladder so she can't be inside and that is killing me. She can sleep inside in her crate but if we let her loose she pees everywhere. The vet told my husband that he will know when it's time. The changes will be obvious. I hate this so much. I just don't want to misread the signs. I'm so scared.

I am so sorry that you got those results. Is there any way that you can block off a small area (xpen), and put down something to protect the floor, so she can be nearby during the day? Hard as it is, I believe your vet is right, you will know when it's time. Until then just keep loving her and make the most of the days you have left.

I am so sorry to hear this. It is never easy to know our loved ones are sick, especially when still so relatively young. I will keep you all in my thoughts
Could you get her a doggy diaper to wear in the house, so she can spend her last few weeks with you? Also, the x-pen mentioned above is a good idea.

Kristy, I am so very sorry. It doesn't matter how many times you go through this, it is always heartbreaking. Mattie, you and your husband will all be in my prayers.
Sophie (labgirl) has made an excellent suggestion on the doggie diapers...if Mattie will accept wearing them it will allow her to spend all her time inside with you rather than outside...and make the time she has left much happier for her.

I am so sorry to hear about Mattie, and my heart breaks for you. Many of us have been through this and we know how hard it is. Mattie has had a wonderful life with you and knows she's loved.
You might consider these dog panties for Mattie so she can be inside with you. We use them for girls in season. You can line them with a sanitary pad and that would help keep Mattie dry.

I was also thinking the same thing...
Could you get her a doggy diaper to wear in the house, so she can spend her last few weeks with you? Also, the x-pen mentioned above is a good idea.
I would want her as close as possible for the remainder of time she has with you. I also want to send my hope that you heal soon from your surgery.
I can only offer my prayers to your family. It is so hard on everyone. Virtual hugs and blessings being sent your way from me and my boys.

I agree. Please do everything you can to let Mattie be part of your family for the little time she has left. If it were my dogs I believe they would be broken hearted if left outside alone.
