Pacing and won't lie down!

Romeo's been pacing for the last 2 hours and he'd only sit and won't lie down. I think he's in some discomfort or pain but I've touched him all over and he hasn't flinched. He's breathing normally and his gums are pink. He is still responsive and sniffs things.

Just before he sits, his head tilts to one side, and his tail lifts.

I don't get it! And I'm getting worried. :(

That sounds like discomfort to me too. Have you taken a looksee under his tail? Maybe he's constipated? When did he last poo?? And..does he have an appetite? Just my unprofessional thoughts coming to mind.
 
Yes I've checked under the tail and it looks normal and he didn't flinch either. His last poop was yesterday. He will still eat food. I tried using treats to see what he wouldn't do with his body and with food he WILL lie down BUT he will not bow (like a playbow).
 
I would definitely have him checked out.

Sadie acted similarly twice. The first time she'd eaten a small stick and was having difficulty passing it, as it was lodged sideways. The second time was when she had her first UTI.
 
Any new sounds in the neighborhood, construction, new neighbors etc...?

Any new smells, a neighbor may have had the exterminator in etc...

Any new mulches out or something he could have eaten differently....?

Check for ticks on him. McKinley will almost show me where a tick is (when he is not playing and getting them on him), I swear they bother him as much as me....

You have a new puppy right? Could it be the change of the new pup? Is she sleeping in his favorite spot, and he wants it?

I am just brainstorming here. A pacing dog to me is nervous about something.

Humm? I was hoping others would have chimed in on this one by now. I'm thinking a vet check might be in order at this point unless somebody has a different thought.. Something is obviously bothering him, and my experience is that when they actually show signs...that's when they are truly in discomfort. Otherwise, they tend to hide their symptoms very well. The pacing is a tell-tell sign too.

All good questions brought to you... Here's one more... Would you consider his poo schedule to be "off" since he hasn't gone since yesterday?
 
My Collie will pace in circles for hours when another dog has usurped her end of the sofa. And Collies shuffle, they can't be bothered to lift their feet, so it's really annoying. Usually I end up throwing off whatever Sheltie is in her spot, she then hops up and falls sound asleep.

I am in hopes that Romeo is doing better.I read your post on faceBook,and now here.

I do think that with him showing the signs of discomfort,are a sign that maybe a vet visit may be in order.Not being able to lie down,he could be in serious pain.

I have read that this breed seems to have a higher tolerance for pain,but those signs I would be worried.

Had you noticed any differance in his poo,even the last time he went?

Are there any real changes other than Juliet coming home.

I know recently you had a party to celebrate,would there be a chance that something he ate at the party,would be bothering him.

Were all the dogs healthy that were there,or possibly did something happen between him & another dog to bring this out now.

Has his anal glands been checked recently?

I know when I saw real changes in Earnhardt's behavior,just before he was diagnosed with the HD,he really outwardly showed me signs he was in pain.And they were like "hit me in the face" signs.

I will keep him in my thoughts,and I hope it is nothing serious.Please keep us posted.
