Pacing and won't lie down!

Have you checked his ears - tilting the head to the side could mean an earache. I agree with Michele - the specialist said shelties are a very stoic breed so its often hard to pick up pain. On the other hand if you cant find anything the vet may not be able to either. Is his poop okay this morning?
 
Thank you for your prayers and thoughts! They must have worked! Romeo's much better today.

I had searched and touched him all over and sat there just observing him and moving him and trying to get him into different positions to figure out what could be the problem. He did do some tongue flicking now and then (when i'm not touching him) which I put to his feeling of discomfort. I concluded it must have something to do with his stomach because while it was his lower half that seemed to be causing him discomfort, he could run up and down stairs tho' would not allow me to stretch his legs out at certain angles. His eyes were still bright and other than the pacing and the refusal to sit, he was still curious (would sniff things he walked by) and would come to me for scratchies. I rang the vet anyway last night and asked them questions and put them on notice. The vet said it didn't sound like an emergency and to monitor him.

So I put him on our bed and stayed up with him for most of the night. He eventually laid down and dozed off, and he did get up a couple of times in the night to move around the bed but he always laid down again. I checked his breathing and his gums regularly and they were normal. In the morning, when we all woke up, Romeo horked up something (looks like cartilege?) onto the bed. I'm guessing it was not being digested and was making its way up and out the front end causing some discomfort.

He looks abit tired from his ordeal last night but is moving around and lying down as he usually does. No more tongue flicks. He's looking much better now and isn't walking hunched with his head lowered anymore. He hasn't pooped yet but I've told everyone who will be in the house to watch for it and let me know when it happens.

I'm so glad he's ok!!!!! It really pays to observe your dog! Sorry I couldn't get to the computer to type out some replies. I was about to keel over from exhaustion and worry. Whenever our furry babies feel pain, it's almost like we feel it ourselves!
 
I'm happy to hear that he's doing better now. Seems like he fixed the problem. What a good mom you are to stay up with him. Hope both of you get some rest now.
 
Wow...I'm so glad he is feeling better. I totally forgot about the night and day difference from the US to where you are. Being he vomited something up...that might make all the difference in the world. Wonder what it was he could have got into?
 
Heehee yes, it was around midnight that I first posted I think.

I think it was just his meal. It looked like it came from the ox tail. He is eating a bit faster than usual with Juliet always ready to take his meal from him. She will try to cram both their food into her little mouth that greedy girl! He has horked things up before but he never felt discomfort to the point of pacing, and this time round, the piece that came out was bigger than usual.

I'll keep them far from each other during meal times. Hopefully he won't feel the need to scarf his food!

Yup...lol...dummy me and the time/day difference..lol I was even beginning to worry that something worse had happened.. Gotta remember that everybody is not on the same clock I'm on..haha..

Ooohh...the rush to the finish line with the meals can cause quite a stomach upset! lol Yea...probably a good idea to seperate them a bit during mealtime. Things like that can cause such tummy aches that the symptoms don't even seem to fit the bill. My mom had a mini doxie that once downed an entire pigs ear before she even knew what was going on. Her little girl was SO sick! We thought we were going to lose her. I babysat her during all of this because mom had to go to work... I fed her water through a syringe, cuddled her in a blanket the hold time...rocking her, etc... Finally, after about 36 hours...she began to feel her old self again. What a scare though. No more pigs ears for ANY of our dogs after that one.

I'm so glad it turned out alright!
