Panting....

Indy pants all the time. It is driving me nuts!

He pants when he want out, he pants when he wants food, he pants when he simply wants attention. The only time he doesn't pant is when he is sleeping.

Is there something physically wrong, or is he just exhibiting some kind of ongoing anxiety?

I had a border collie that used to do that panting thing. It felt to me that she was trying to annoy me, so that I would get up and do whatever it was that she wanted. I didn't like it and made her go sit on her mat, because it felt like she was trying to be Alpha to me. That's was just my opinion, maybe it isn't the same with Indy.

I tend to think you are right....it's like he does it for attention! I was watching him sitting outside through my window. No panting! Happy as a clam, watching the birds.

And it does annoy me, and I usually end up doing what he wants. :(

Bits pants , but then she has a fur coat like a dowager queen. The others only pant then they're hot. Oh, except for Layla, who sometimes pants when she thinks she's pulled a fast one on Bits. Come to think of it, I'llbe she's laughing!

When nikki used to sleep above my head..not 2 seconds later she'd start panting...uugh it was just so annoying cuz i couldnt sleep.:dead:

Mine have been panting, my girl more so then my boy. It was so cold here and OMG it turned really hot, where they don't want to go out.

Both my dogs make panting noises when they are happy or laughing - I call it their happy pant. I read some research that there really is the doggy version of laughing - it's like the ha ha ha sound we make but without the 'a' (here's an article if you are interested http://www.petalk.org/LaughingDog.pdf)

But of course it does depend on what sort of pant because they can also be cooling off or stressed.

My Indy pants, too, and I think that he is trying to annoy me. It usually means that he has not had enough exercise. He never does it after he has had his hike. If time permits, I always take him on a hike when he is panting and then he gets home and is just about comatosed.

Romeo pants all the time too. I keep worrying it's his lungs and some residual problem from his pneumonia when he was a pup. But that's probably me being paranoid again. :rolleyes2:
