PetCo shaved my dog!!!!

Hi all. New here. I wish my first post were in a better light... :(

PetCo shaved my dog! I only brought her in for a brush & bath. I'm so mad I can barely see straight!!!

Oh, and they did a HORRIBLE job at that. It's such a hack-job I can't even begin to describe it. And she's so ashamed of herself now too (poor Hailey!)

Does anyone know how long it takes for the coat to grow in again? At least so she looks like a sheltie. Not (as my friend put it) "a retarded rabbit."

Is there anything I can give her to make her fur come in quicker? Protein? Salmon-oil Pills? Any kind of supplements?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Oh - if you want to see pictures... www.stephaniemillner.com/blog

Thanks.

Oh Dear... I can't believe they shaved your dog. What did they have to say about that after you mentioned to them all I asked for was a bath and brush? Omg I would have gotten my money back but mostly I think I would have been so upset. I hope her fur comes back soon.. I am so sorry to see that..:eek2:

I paid first before I saw her. When they bought her out I was so upset I screamed and then ran out of the store. I figured I was over-reacting so I posted some images of her online and got inundated with calls from family/friend/clients about how horrible it was. (My mother - Hailey's grandma - started crying!)

So I printed out some of the images I did of her yesterday and brought her back in to PetCo. As soon as the manager saw her, she goes "Oh, you must be the sheltie [the groomer] screwed up this morning. Would you like your money back ma'am?" Uh, gee... ya' THINK!?!

I'm just so mad about the whole thing. My dog looks like an idiot. (Sure, a cute and sweet one, but still...)

How long til' the hair comes in? (Not soon enough I'm sure.) Any way to promote hair growth?

Poor Hailey

I would have petco paying for haileys future groomings at your regular groomer. :wink2: That's terrible don't they know that a wash and brushing has nothing to do with clippers!!:eek2: Stephanie, I wish you luck and at least know that it will eventually grow back.:(

First of all, I am so sorry for what happened to you Hallie. If it were me, I would be speaking with a lawyer. The lawyer can help you sort out what you want as an outcome. Don't speak with PetCo without your lawyer. I expect they'll settle out of court for what you agree to, plus your legal costs. I can definitely tell you that you have a case here.

Shaved Sheltie

Oh My God I would be spitting bullets. What Morons and Idiots they are. I hate Petco.Your poor baby!!!!

Oh believe me... we had words yesterday! I was still crying about it this morning when my husband got home from work. He said that his mom used to shave their border collie / shepherd mix every summer, and by winter time his full coat was in and that I'm over-reacting. Although, I think he was just prepared to see Hailey when he got home.

The manager was actually very helpful. She was fuming as well when she saw my little fur(less)-monster. Other people in line at the register started yelling at the manager on my behalf, which is rather funny. I think people react worse on a bad haircut on a dog, than on themselves!

I'm not sure if I will need to sue. Hopefully her hair will grow back. There's not much else I can do - I just have to wait it out. Poor little naked dog!!!

Revenge!

Hi Stephanie...first of all, your photographs are beautiful! And so is Hailey. I'd be as angry as you are at what happened. It's not good for Shelties to be shaved; they need their coats to insulate them from the heat. I am in complete agreement with Chris...I'd be contacting a lawyer. There are many who would take your case for damages (as in no fee to you unless they recover). You should at least get some compensation for their astounding error, and that means more than just your money back!

If you don't want to take that route, I'd suggest writing a Letter to the Editor of your local paper. At the very least you can give them some bad publicity and put other dog owners on notice. Or send a formal, written letter to the CEO of PetSmart (you can find the name online by Googling Petsmart), copying the manager of your local store and see what they'll offer you.

As for growing Hailey's hair back, sadly there is nothing you can do except let nature take its course. It will take a full season to grow back unfortunately...as in six months' minimum. Adding salmon oil to her diet will help her general health and coat quality certainly, but there is no Rogain for dogs.

We wish you luck and sympathize greatly!! Give Hailey a pat for us.
