I saw a commercial on Animal Planet late the other night and wondered if anyone had tried this product or known anyone who has.

Also anyone use the Dremmel on their fur kids? Mine doesn't like having her nails cut although she tolerates it so I was considering trying something else.
 
Wow.
Treader hates having his nails clipped. Once I accidentally cut right through the quick, and he had mild bleeding for a few minutes.
 
My first job was poodle groming, and I can't tell you how many dog nails I've clipped. I still mess up occasionally. I have a dremmel tool, but it's so hard to use. I'm intrigued by the Peticure -- but it sure is expensive! Time to hit Ebay:lol:

I bought it, I thought my model Dremel was suppose to work with it, but it doesn't fit. I haven't emailed them to see what I can do yet.
 
Tim ,you just bought the safeguard for your dremel, correct. Because you can purchase the entire unit in either petite for smaller dogs and cats or the elite for the larger animals. I will get the whole unit this way I don't have to worry about it fitting or not. It comes with a rechargable unit.:cool:

Yes Elaine, that's what I did. Yeah you might as well purchase the whole unit. It doesn't cost that much more.

It never occured to me to try using a dremel tool on my dog's nails.

My parent's sheltie is wonderful, his nails are almost all white (only one dark nail) so you can see exactly how far back to cut. As a result it was easy to train him to like having his nails cut.

Sadie is the complete opposite, her nails are all black, except one. I cut one back slightly too short and its taken me a long time to get her comfortable around the clippers again. I always leave them too long now which is annoying, but better than hurting her.

I'll definitely have to try using a dremel next time. I did a bit of my own research into this method of trimming nails and came across this really great website on using a dremel for nail trimming. It is extremely detailed and has some great photo's, for anyone who is interested! :yes:

I Dremmeled Sadie's Nails

After a few days of getting her used to the sound of the Dremmel I finally used it to sand down Sadie's nails.

It was great! So much easier than trimming them! I got them nice and short without reaching the quick and not pain or stress on Sadie. I definitely recommend it to anyone who has a dog with black nails, like Sadie.

The only thing I'd warn about is:

A: The noise, the Dremmel is not for dog's who are very sound sensative.

B: Make sure you don't apply it to one nail for more than 3 seconds as it will heat up the nail quickly. That being said, if it does heat up a bit it cools down the instant you take the Dremmel away from the nail, especially if you touch the nail to dissipate the heat (it should barely feel warm to the touch, if its hot you've applied the Dremmel for WAY more than 3 seconds)

I used that web site I posted earlier in this thread as a guide line and it was great, this lady was extremely detailed in her instructions. The only thing I didn't do was apply vasoline afterward to make the nails appear shiny (they get a bit dull with the sanding), I figured it was too messy and no one pays attention a dog's nails unless they're showing.
