Peticure

I have a friend who is a groomer and tyhis is what she told me

When I tried the Peticure I wasn't impressed. First it had to be properly set up which the client hadn't done (not sure why) and then it stopped when I used firm pressure on it. I know that's a safety factor but it won't get job done very quickly. As soon as I started the dust from the nail went straight to the cover and I couldn't see anything. Also I couldn't round the edges on the entire nail which is what I do with the dremel.

Very disappointed. I've emailed them...don't know how long I'll have to wait for a response. In the meantime....Bacca desperate for nail clipping. I managed 2 paws earlier this week. Psyching myself up to finish the next 2! :rolleyes2:

In the mean time, try using a Dremel on him, its pretty much the same thing :yes:
 
Well, after a few days of exchanging email, I looked at the instructions again last night and discovered that my Peticure Power was not missing a piece, just that the instructions were for the Elite...so I could not recognize the parts.

So it's now finally running. I just have to get the nerve to use it! :o

I thought I would start with letting Bacca sniff the unit both idle and running and give him treats if he came close.

Well that worked so far....now I just need to brave the next step.....

Do you really have to be licensed to administer anaesthetic....it would be so much simpler if I could.....:rolleyes2:
 
well, just wanted to update on the Peticure. even though Callie doesn't lay on her back, I pick her up and sit her in my lap upside down as suggested so very far down somewhere on this thread. She's not completely puppertonic but pretty close- only moves a little after a few nails. I leave the Peticure running- got the Professional so no batteries to wear out- pet her some and then go back to filing. seems to be working pretty well- she is better with it than with clippers so we'll be sticking with the Peticure.
 
Bacca is absolutely no problem at all with the Peticure. He doesn't like to be held in my lap with his back to me, so I have to hunch on the floor while he lays on his side, then I flop him over, spin him around and do the other side.

I usually have to do two rounds on each paw because it does heat up

I tried it on Indy the other day and he was not impressed, so I'll have to go through the same routine I did with Bacca - gradual introduction. (He also does like the lady's shaver I use to trim the feet, so same issue there).

Don't know how you guys do it with your 3, 4, 5, 6 or more pups! Friday is grooming night and I'm exhausted when it's done! Wish someone would groom me and put me to bed! :lol::biggrin2:

once they get used to it its no big deal you can zip through a couple of dogs easily....however until you get them into a routine it does become a chore:rolleyes2: I finally have the newest one used to trimming and standing still on the table....pretty much...doenst mean we dont still try to lick the scissors while im trimming:eek2:..it keeps ya paying attention
 
When you say you trim the feet with a lady's shaver, do you mean between the paw pads too? I use a pair of rounded tip scissors now but if I can find a way to make grooming easier and faster I'm all for it!
I'm gonna get that Peticure too!
 
I use scissors on the hair between his pads (I found the razor not powerful enough), but I actually use the shaver (it's only about 3/4 inch wide bikini razor) to trim the top of his feet (to create those "cat" feet that we all love!). I use a very light touch and move the razor quite quickly so that I don't take out chunks. I find the trimming goes very quick.

This, btw, is exactly opposite from where I first learned the technique from (I think it was Dayna? or was it Ann?) who use the razor on the pads and scissors on the tops and side. When I first read the technique I read it backwards, but what the heck, it works for me! :wink2:

Barb, something that is powerful enough is the little trimmers they sell that are battery operated and meant for trimming a horse on the fly (woops, missed some whiskers and we're at a show type situations). They seem to have enough power to do the pads. I've been using them for a while now, and they work great.

Thanks for the suggestion, too bad they're out of the US, the cost of shipping is probably more than the trimmer itself. I will definitely look into something similar in Canada though. Thanks!
