Poop Eating

So this evening, Koji vomited. I was like, what are you spitting up? Your breakfast? I looked at it and what do I see? Potato pieces and peas. What is that from? Miko's poop. Trust me, he didn't eat Miko's dinner by accident. Gross.

I know he eats it, I've caught him doing it. But if I'm sleeping soundly and Miko poops in the house, guess who cleans it up for me? Yup, Koji :ick

So, here's the thing. Is it harmful in anyway? Miko doesn't digest his food really (that's why you can see the potato and peas easily). No clue how often Koji eats it, but for fun, let's just say once a day (gross). I can tell when he eats it because he has far more poop than normal.

Thoughts? If it's not harmful, I will continue to do my best to stop him, but I'll feel okay knowing it won't harm/kill him. If it's harmful, I'll have to figure out how to get Koji to not eat it. Maybe close my bedroom door so Miko can't come in and therefore, Koji can't eat it.

I know dogs do this all the time, but I was wondering how Miko semi-unprocessed foods would, or could make a difference. Oh, and Miko isn't on any medication. I only add his vitamins, glucosamine, and fish oil to his food. I don't think the vitamins would be a concern, but at least no prescriptions meds.
 
The only thing I would be really concerned about is medication, but you already said Miko doesn't take any medication.

It's a really, really gross habit. I would still try your best to prevent it, but I wouldn't panic when it does happen.

Bailey used to eat poop too. She doesn't anymore because I clean it up as soon as she goes and I don't live with my parents anymore, whose dogs make on pads. When I do go over their house with Bailey, we keep the door closed, where their pads are and open it only when Bailey is locked up or I'm walking her.

Vomit poop is the absolute worst smell ever! One time Bailey did eat some poop when I was at my parents' place. When we were driving home, she vomited poop. I wanted to die right then and there.:dead: It was winter and I had to drive the rest of the way home with all the windows open. Worst thing I have ever smelled.
 
You'll want to periodically check both for parasites, too since that is the most common way of passing them around.

My boys don't eat dog poo, but they think rabbit raisins are candy and will go out of their way to gobble up a pile. :ick
 
It never ceases to amaze me that we find ourselves here, discussing some of the most beautiful, resourceful and INTELLIGENT of God's creatures, and eventually (and quite often I might add) the conversation gets around to the point that many of these creatures (dare I say it?) are - - - - POOP EATERS!!!:gaah

I'm still offering prayers that my next companion DOESN'T have the poop eating gene. BTW, does anyone know if that gene is dominant or recessive? :smile2:

Oh we have that here too.:ick One is discriminating and the other isn't. We also have a husky and Meadow only dines on his poop whereas Reno isn't fussy, his own or the other two's is just fine for him.:gaah. Needless to say I spend a lot of time on poop patrol.
 
I have caught Natalie actually nudging the fur aside on Emma to catch it. She gets yelled at and then gives me a look that tells me off for yelling at her.
 
Indy does this too....and yes, meds are an issue because Bacca is on meds.....

Indy is so freakin' food crazy that he will get it wherever he can....poo, vomit, leftover food scraps...whatever he can scrounge. He hovers around Bacca to see if he leaves a kibble or two in his dish....no wonder that Bacca has decided to eat in the bedroom these days.

Its not like I'm starving him. He even goes ape when I squirt the lactulose down Bacca's throat....he thinks he is missing out. Some dogs are just plain food obsessed. Indy is that.
