Prancing Sheltie?

Is this normal for a Sheltie? Whenever he is playing (but not running) he prances. At the dog park, when playing catch, etc. Other people certainly notice it and comment on how cute he is when he prances. I don't remember my other Shelties prancing when I was growing up, so I thought I'd ask if anyone else's Sheltie does this.

Thanks

Your dog is excited and happy. Mine use to bounce like a gazelle, kind of boing boing boing and now that he is two it is not as often ( shucks ) i kind of liked it.

One of my three girls prances. I hadn't really noticed it until a few weeks back when we were doing the walk and wag with all three dogs. A little Pom was up in front of us and she was prancing and I was cracking up. Then I looked at Zoe and she was prancing. She certainly thinks she is the Princess of the house. She even has a special pillow that she lays on right next to dad on the couch every night!

My 15 month old, Barkley, is a fabulous prancer. :smile2: He looks like my horses doing their Dressage trot! He's the offspring of the Shellhaven show dogs and was supposed to be one himself...it's one of their traits in the show ring. So be proud of your prancer! :biggrin2:

Layla and Bits' great grandfather, Musashi (Pop Star SS of Northern Farm), has the most incredible gait. It's the classic Sheltie "daisy-cutting" prance. Layla inherited it, but Bits walks like a truck driver.

Smoke loooves to prance, and the amount of prancing seems relative to the number of people he knows are watching him. We compete in disc dog competitions for fun, we have never won because he has yet to learn that he should run fast to catch more discs and get more points. With the crowd of people that he sees as adoring fans he is more concerned with running pretty

Callie prances around the living room after she's been brushed and told how beautiful she is. Also when we first leave the house to go for a walk- doesn't last past the second yard- then she goes to the trot.
