We have had Denali for 6 weeks now. We have let our grumpy declawed 11 yr old cat, Sam (alpha cat) & Denali spend bits of time together in hopes they would find their place. The cat always swats Denali and often pursues him but Denali thinks it's fun as he swiftly races around the cat and barks at him. More recently Denali is becoming aggressive, jumping on the cat and attempting to nip him.
We want these two to live peacefully together and hoping it isn't too late. I am also concerned Denali will hurt the cat.
Can anyone suggest a better way to allow them to interact? Since i can't change the cat, is there a way to teach Denali to leave Sam alone or am I expecting too much? What steps should we take to teach these two to get along, play nice, or leave each other alone? Any ideas or experience with this is greatly appreciated.
