Puppy Panics in Warm Weather

My puppy won't want to be outside if it's over 75 outside. If I bring him out to go potty, he will just charge at the end of his leash to try and get back into my apartment. When I put him in the grass, he immediately does this so it's hard for me to believe that it's because he's extremely hot since I'd imagine it would take him at least a couple minutes to get too warm.

I don't want to encourage this behavior because I don't want him to think that's how he gets back inside. But we spent 15 minutes outside today (it was about 80 and sunny) and I was waiting for him to calm down before I brought him back in. After that time though, I was afraid he was genuinely going to get too warm so I waited for some milder behavior that wasn't as calm as I wanted but not as extreme as before.

I want to know if it's safe for me to wait out his tantrum even if it is a little warm outside. He's 11 weeks and while I have no problem waiting outside for as long as it takes, I just want to make sure I won't be stressing him out too much where he would suffer from a heat illness.

I doubt his wanting to go back in has anything to do with the weather/heat.......................
my biblack dog has always been a sunbather- we live in southern Alabama so we get some temps...
and he will be warm to the touch when he does decide to come in...
he was like that as a puppy too..

Personally, I do not see it as a drama king
- it may be something about the place he finds uncomfortable / scared of
- may well be something that happened much earlier

I would find another place perhaps with a bit of shade - and never forget treats

I just see Piper mom's answer is similar to mine
:wink2:

He could be going through a fear period, so I wouldn't push him too much. http://ice.ucdavis.edu/~robyn/Korina/BCIdeas/Criticalperiodsinpuppydevelopment.html

I agree with practicing wearing the lead around the house and also going to a different spot to toilet (could the ground have been hot and it gave him a fright?). He may also becoming fearful of the outdoors, with all the sounds and stimulation and the different surfaces. At this age you need to be desensitising and socialising, he needs positive exposure to many situations and environments so he doesn't end up timid and scared. Dr Sophia Yin's Socialisation Checklist is fantastic for puppy raising, I think everyone should get this when they have a puppy https://drsophiayin.com/app/uploads/2015/12/Socialization_Checklist.pdf.

Also, take a squeaky toy with you when you go and your pockets should always have treats in them! When you go out just stand and have a play session with him for a little while, going outside should be fun and it should be fun with you.
