Puppy Playdates in Metrowest Boston area?

My puppy is 11 and a 1/2 weeks old. Maddie needs to meet other puppies for playdates! I tried to find puppies of a similar age through the website "Next-door", but I was chewed out by a few people for the danger of exposing her to viruses such as Parvo. My vet said that that was ridiculous, and that as long as the puppies are up to date with the appropriate vaccinations for their age, it should be no problem. Maddie has had so far the vaccinations that are suitable for a 12 week old puppy. So, in short, are there any sheltie puppies in the area who would like to meet for a playdate? Thanks. Janet

Ooops I replies to your other post with the suggestion of Nextdoor - that seemed to have worked here in Southern California, (it wasn't my post) I didn't see any nasty comments. :rolleyes2: Sorry that happened to you. Maybe post a notice at your vet's office if they have a bulletin board, or even call and ask the office staff if they know of any other new pet parents that might be also looking for a puppy social opportunity. Good luck.

Have you looked on Facebook to see if there's a community neighbourhood page for your area? I know we have one and I was able to connect with other Sheltie owners that way. Another option is to contact your breeder and see if she knows of any puppy owners. You could see if you can find a puppy obedience class...doesn't have to be Sheltie puppies. Some obedience classes will accept puppies after their first shot. Good luck!

Your vet is right, I got out with my puppy at 11 weeks old, before shots were complete. Socializing a puppy is so important it cannot wait. Did your vet have suggestions? Can you find a puppy class?

Thanks Sharon. I will call the vet's office for puppy ideas. Unfortunately with Covid, all pet owners stay in the car, and the vet assistants come out to bring the pets into the vet office and then bring them back to the car, so not bulletin board opportunity. Janet

Thanks! Maddie's obedience class is via Zoom. I have asked the trainer for puppy owners' names, but currently all pups are quite a bit older. I've contacted a local breeder to see if she has puppy ideas. (Maddie's breeder lives 5 hours away). Facebook is a great option! Thanks! Janet

Yes - it is incredible that these vets are not aware of the important time
from 8 to 12 weeks is.

If the puppy's mom has been vaccinated regularly
(then the puppy gets protection through the mom´s milk's)
The puppy will received the first vaccine when 6-8 weeks old,
it is fully protected until it is 12 weeks,
and can therefore easily come out and experience the world.

8-12 week:
The puppy must - in a safe way - get to know life with everything
that goes of environmental training and meeting other people and dogs.

Therefore, it is important that we do not shield our puppy from the world.
The more it is allowed to meet the better the puppy will handle life in the future :hugs
