I'm thinking of switching my shelties to Pro Plan. What are your honest opinions. It's so much easier and more convenient for me to get. The only way I can get there current food is to order it.

I know of some very successful conformation breeders that feed Pro Plan, and are very happy with it.

I think you can do better unless dollars are an issue.

Money isn't an issue. I'm feeding Fromm gold now and everyone is doing good on it. The only place it can get Fromm is online. Pro plan is easier to get.
But I 100% want what's best for my babies as long as it's reasonable

I can tell you that with that much grain, my dogs go from nicely muscled dogs in good weight with good coats, to mushy, fat, with crap hair and squishy smelly stools. It only took two bags once (less than a month), when I decided the Costco food was "good enough". I was wrong, and I'll never go back to foods with those kinds of ingredients.

I get Fromm from www.chewy.com. Free shipping if you order enough, and it ships in one day. You can enroll in auto-ship and set the frequency you want it delivered so you don't even have to think about it. You can also order treats and other supplies there if you need to reach the free shipping amount.
If you're in doubt about Purina, read the ingredients list. If it contains byproducts, corn or other fillers, you're not getting your money's worth and you'll have to feed more of it than you do the Fromm, which is a high quality food. I won't feed any food with these ingredients.

Pro plan is ok. A lot of breeders use it because they get subsidies from the manufacturer. It's not the worst of the commercial foods. In my mind Royal Canin and Science Diet are worse.
Do you have a pet store in your community? Is so, even if they don't carry Fromm (they do have a limited distribution, and I can't even bring it into my store) there are many, many other better choices.
Natural Balance, Wellness Core, TOTW, even Chicken Soup. Merrick also now has a pretty good dry grain free line. All of these brands are generally available in any pet store.
There are many others I would recommend as well, but not as available cross-country.

I currently feed Merrick grain free buffalo and sweet potato and Cookie does very well on it. He has some sheltie friends (Skye and Webster) at camp who eat Pro Plan, and honestly they are much chunkier and less defined and not as shiny as Cookie is. Now they may be feeding too much, feeding bad treats, other factors may be involved, etc, but as someone who picks up a lot of dog poo on a daily basis, I would hate to have dogs with stools like Skye and Webster's. It is consistently mushy, large, and generally gross.
Merrick is not available at Petsmart, but Petco does sell it. That said, it is infinitely cheaper online, as are most pet foods. I rotate Cookie's food with other grain free dog foods that have different protein sources (I and Love and You and Honest Kitchen, for the most part) and he also loves those two brands. He has small firm stools, gorgeous shiny coat, minimal shed, well defined muscles, and decent breath for a dog.
