Question about Puppy Expectations

So Ms. Sasha has been with us for 2 weeks now and is doing quite fabulous (if you ask me.)

She does not bark in her crate, she sleeps great in there at night, We have taught her sit and lay down and she literally STOPS traffic when she is outside(with her beauty of course).

Sasha started out at 2.8 pounds at 8 weeks and I weighed her this morning and she is now 4lbs.

So here are my questions:
We have been working on walking her on a leash and I don't know if we are setting our expectations too high. For about a week we were consistantly able to get a good 1/2 mile out of her on a leash (eventually my husband would like to be able to run with her). Today she decided that she was not going to participate, AT ALL. She lays down on the side walk or grass and goes limp, very drama queenish if you ask me.

So what would you do?

Next question: How long till you felt like your dog was house broken, I don't know what my expectations should be with this 10week old puppy. I'd say that we are about 70% outside and 30% inside.
So some advice would be nice. EVERYTHING I read repeats teaching them when they are young to avoid bad habits, but I don't want to overload her (too late)

I think you are way ahead of the curve. I don't put leashes on my puppies until they are older, so going half a mile is huge. And it sounds like the housebreaking is going well.
 
My dogs were about a week before they were house trained, getting them around 10 weeks of age. There was the odd accident after that. Just watch and keep taking them out every little while.

You have done well on the leash. Try holding treats in front of her. They go through stages like this. Emma decided she would only walk a few steps and stop. I would turn around and walk the other way, until she repeated her antics. I then went the other way. She got the idea she was to walk the direction I wanted.
 
Try jingling keys for her to follow. Make leash walking FUN!! I also learned that puppies poop out!! :wink2:
 
I agree with Rachael (Clantyre). I think a 1/2 mile walk is a bit long for a puppy to focus. They have tiny attention spans! When I worked leash walking we just started going out to the end of the driveway and back. I don't think we walked any significant distance until they were much older.

I also would not consider a puppy 100% housetrained until 6 months old. Sure, some of them are, but you should watch her like a hawk and use all your methods until that point.
 
Yea I agree with the others Sounds like things are going great with Sasha.
I found with the house training if you are there to get them out a lot they will pick it up quick and before you know it she will be whinning at the door to get out. sounds like the leash training is going great too for such a young pup.

Storm houstrained I think by around 3/4 months but then she also had 2 others to show her the way, same with walks and healing.
 
10 weeks things can be scary also. I got Sca at 10 weeks then in a couple of weeks we would walk to Mom's which is about 1/2 mile each way. I would have to carry him by one house since there was a shepherd that barked (I think they would play now if allowed). Then on the way home he would be to tired and I would have to carry him about half way. So I agree with others your pup is doing great. Give the leash a rest for a couple of weeks then go again. Also be careful running long distance for the first year I think. Maybe some of the experts will chime in but it seems close to agility activity.
