Questions about heat and marking

My dog has a recessed vulva. Doctor recommended that I have her spayed after her first heat to prevent UTI because many dogs will outgrow the recessed vulva after the first heat. I have several questions for those who had their dogs spayed after their first/second heat.

1. Did your dog mark like a male dog during her heat?
2. After she was spayed post her first or second heat, did she retain the habit of marking? I’ve heard that a male dog neutered after six months will often retain the instinct to mark, even after the neutering. Not sure about females. Thanks.

My bitch does not mark and she’s now in her second heat.

I have a spayed bitch who never went through a heat who marks some.

All of my girls have been intact and I've never known of one in season to mark, before, during or after. I've only heard of marking in dogs. It's more likely for girls to "leak" a bit later in life after they're spayed. So I don't think you have anything to worry about there.

Depends what you mean by marking. Tully lifts her leg often on walks, but she grew up with a male dog. She doesn't mark inside the house though.

Two boys neutered around 2 yrs old- they don't mark. One of them was actually done to stop his marking and what a difference...........................

Thank you all. That’s good to know. I’ve read in a golden retriever forum that bitches in season are common to mark. That’s why I got worried. Looks like shelties are different than golden retrievers.

Both my girls definitely mark but not in the house or yard - out on walks. Faith was spayed at 2 and Brooke at 8. Faith really goes to town marking when walked with a friend's male Sheltie who marks a LOT. She goes everywhere he does.....:rolleyes2:

Minnie sprayed betwem 1. and 2. heat - have never mark in the house or the garden
but lifts her leg often on walks
