Rash on Snout

Thanks, that's definitely the next step.

I'm a bit surprised that no one seems to have experience anything exactly like this? I'd hoped that someone could shed some light on what the cause of this rash is while we wait for the next vet appointment.

Our vet had said she believed it might be viral, which is why she wanted us to wait and see for a few days.

Even though it doesn't bother him we feel so bad for him. Milo is such a sweet and sensitive little guy. Hence the look on his face in the photo. :o

I was thinking it looked a little like the demodex that Cran had- the vet initially thought it was contact dermatitis but when he did a scraping, found the little mites. it's why I suggested the scraping earlier.
It's just so hard to tell from a pic.

I thought of demodex, but is it usually wet and inflammed? I thought it was more scaly? There are some drier areas (can't see them in the photo) but for the most part its moist.

Milo has never had a bad immune system, I literally don't think he's ever been sick. Plus he has almost no exposure to other animals and is only ever around my dogs, who are healthy, so I'm not sure where he'd pick that up. Could he get it from wild bunnies?

here's some info on demodex:

I think demodex is a long shot. I also think our vet would have recognized it the first time she saw him.

Still waiting to find out wht the vet wants to do next...

my vet didn't and he has treated other dogs for it....
the scraping is the only way to tell for sure from what I've read.
hope you can get if figured out soon.

This is a long shot but its been pretty cold and dry this winter. Could this be simply winter weather on an older dog with less fur to protect her snout? Bacca's loves to surf the snow with hus snout.

Any loss of pigment on the nose ? This is a lupus area but it's hard to say what a skin condition is just by looking at a picture...I'm sure your vet will have some thoughts. Some skin issues are really hard to figure out.

Nope, no loss of pigment. His nose itself is totally unaffected.

The vet is treating him for a bacterial infection I believe. My mom said she would be picking up an antibiotic for Milo today. I hope this clears it up!

Milo has been on his antibiotics for a few days now and his snout and bottom lip are looking MUCH better. No idea where he would have picked up this infection, he's home 99% of the time.

Will try to send an updated photo. :smile2:
