This article explains how they discovered the contaminated animal food. It really shows how poor their quality control is at this manufacturing lab as this never showed up in their quality control tests. I'm also alarmed the first case was reported traced back to October and now, 6 months later and at least 14 people ill -- no telling how many dogs, more light is being shed on it. Yeah, if it were only effecting animals, it wouldn't be in the news yet. They were only able to trace it back because of that. They should be sued for their "every batch tested" crap advertised on their page as that's clearly a lie.

This is the part that is so confusing to me. Maybe you guys can help me understand it better.

Why is the salmonella in commercial dog food bad, but we shouldn't worry about the salmonella in RAW chicken?
 
I found the best thing to do is to call your pet store where the food was purchased. Right now I am really ticked because corporate lied to me.

It doesn't matter where the food was produced if the numbers match up its contaminated. I called the phone number off the bag of food and the line does not ring.

I am keeping track of what food Diamond makes and NEVER again will I buy any brand they have.

Here's what I gather -- People think to wash their hands and be extra careful when handling raw meat because they know the associated risks. However, when feed bagged pet food, they don't think the same risks apply and don't wash their hands or the area the food has touched and they get sick. That's what I gather.

I don't believe that's all it is. I know people who have said their dogs were having seizures and I can't find much about salmonella causing seizures. Also, my foster, Rudy, had freaking CANCER. How much more immune compromised can ya get and I fed him raw chicken at times that stunk to high heaven and he was just fine so I'd like to see these dogs with salmonella. My pack eat on animals that stay out in the yard all week, again, never any illnesses. I might be wrong, but I'm waiting for more to come out. Since in the past, their record isn't very good, it wouldn't be surprising for this to be something bigger in addition. If they didn't catch something as simple as salmonella, which they claim every bag is tested, who knows....
 
I wanted to add, and didn't realize this, that Kirkland is part of this brand. My friend thought she was safe, but I just saw their recall page and realized, no, you're not. (well sorta since CA isn't a listed distribution area)
