I'm sure this has probably been done but with all the problems with treats out there I thought we could share some recipes of our own. Who wants to be first????

• 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
• 4 Tbs. Crisco

• 1/2 C. buttermilk

Recipe for Sweet Potato Chews

Ingredients:
• 1 Large Sweet Potato, washed & dried
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 250° F
2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
3. Cut off one side of the sweet potato lengthwise, as close to the edge as possible. Cutting the side of the potato first allows you to then turn the potato onto this flat surface that you have just created. Having a stable area to rest the potato will make it easier to cut the potato into slices. Don't discard that first piece; it comes out just as yummy as the rest!
4. Cut the rest of the potato into 1/3" slices, no smaller than 1/4".
5. Place them on the prepared baking sheet.
6. Bake for 3 hours, turning half way through.
7. Cool completely on a wire rack.

Storing - Although these treats are dried, you will want to keep them in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks. You can freeze them for up to 4 months.

Tips & Techniques• Choosing a Sweet Potato - You want to find a potato that is as uniform in shape as possible. This will aid in the drying process as the pieces will be similar in shape and will cook through at the same time. Knife Skills - If you are a pro with a knife, you may not need to cut off one side to stable your potato. If that's the case, then by all means skip that step.
•Degree of Chewiness - Baking for 3 hours results in a soft, but chewy dog treat. If your dog prefers more of a crunch, then bake for an additional 20-30 minutes. When you take the sweet potatoes out of the oven, they may at first appear to be too soft. Let them cool completely on a wire rack before you decide whether or not to bake them longer. This is because they will continue to dry or harden while cooling.

Salmon Delites (Wheat Free)

Ingredients:
1 Can Salmon (8 oz)
1/2 c. Minced Parsley
3 Eggs Including shells (good for calcium)
1/2 c. Flaxseeds (ground)
1/2 c. Sesame Seed (ground)
2 C. Rye Flour

Directions:
Preheat oven 375 degrees.

Mix all ingredients (except flour) in a food processor. Add flour slowly while running. The dough will form a ball shape when finished.

Place dough ball on a floured surface and knead for a minute. Then roll out into a thick rectangle (about 12"). Use a pizza cutter to cut long strips and then cut horizontally to make bite size squares. Bake on greased cookie sheets for 20-30 min.

You can bake them longer to make them harder or less for softer treats. Be aware that softer treats will not last as long as harder ones as they have higher moisture content. Either freeze for future use or keep in refridgerator is using right away.

My three love these:

Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Dog Treats

2-1/2 cups whole wheat flour
2 eggs
1/2 cup canned pumpkin
2 tablespoons peanut butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions:
1. preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 celcius).

2. Whisk together the flour, eggs, pumpkin, peanut butter, salt, and cinnamon in a bowl. Add ater as needed to help make the dough workable, but the dough should be dry and stiff. Roll the dough into a 1/2-inch thick roll. Cut into 1/2 inch pieces.

3. Bake in preheated oven until hard, about 40 minutes.

Allrecipes.com has a lot of different dog treats.

these look so good, I'm going to try the salmon and pb/pumkin. We've been buying Yummy Chummies at Costco, & the dogs are wild about them, AND they're made in the USA. But they cost $8/bag, I bet I could make them for a lot less. Thanks for the recipes everyone.
