Refusing to eat

I hope it's nothing serious and that your vet can figure out what's wrong. I always worry when my pups stop eating as it's never a good sign from my personal experience.

You are smart to have the vet see her, I'm with everyone else about the not eating thing. It worries me. From what you're describing, I wonder if she could be having a tooth problem? It almost sounds like it bothers her to eat. I do hope it's something that simple. I know what it's like to have pups with stomach issues and it's a tough nut to crack. The only other thing I could suggest is trying to give her canned food.

Good luck this afternoon and do let us know how she is!!

Yeah, I thought tooth problem too, but she has good teeth and from what I can see they all look fine.

Last night was the only night she went without a meal so she's not losing weight or anything yet. Depending on what the vet says, I may switch her over to wet food, or at the very least keep wetting down her kibble.

Its slowly gotten worse as time goes by, she's been eating slower and slower till she won't eat anymore. The only time she's ever refused to eat is when she was having digestive issues and her tummy was bothering her, which leads me to believe something is wrong.

A blood panel to check kidney values would probably be good.

Crap!

This is just too close to Bacca and his issues last summer.

Like others, when a dog goes off his food for more than 24 hours or so, you know something is up.

Test and test some more until you get an answer. Get them to do a full bloodwork that includes ALS, ALT, T4.

Bacca went off his food totally when his Liver counts started to go through the roof. It was if he KNEW that he could not eat this food anymore. Took him off high protein, but still grain-free and he's fine (though almost due for his next round of bloodwork)

Good luck!

Any word yet. With the yelp my first thought is a cracked tooth. 4th premolars can crack the long way and unless the outside wall fell off they can be hard to see. I also had two clients pup with sticks stuck sideways on the roof of the mouth , black mouths /dark black sticks hard to see when awake.

Hope there is nothing serious going on.

Checking in to see if there were any conclusive answers today at the vet.

Hope everything is good.

Sorry to come on line so late, we had a very busy night.

The vet visit went ok I guess. Like me, she couldn't find anything wrong with her but did say that it definitely sounded like something in her mouth was bothering her. She looked and felt around in her mouth and she said that her teeth looked fine, no cracks. Nothing noticably lodged in her throat. She said its probably not worth it to put her out and investigate her throat since she wasn't showing any symptoms of having something stuck, like gagging or drooling.

She took Sadie's temp. just in case but it was normal.

She mentioned a disease that can make it difficult for them to open their mouths, but she has no problem doing that and let out a rather big yawn at the vets just to prove it.

We agreed since she's acting no differently and not acting sick at all, that I'd keep wetting down her food for a few more days and keep an eye on her. If the problem persists or gets worse then we'll do testing.

Tonight she ate her dinner fine, although slowly. No convincing necessary. I guess I'll just have to wait and see how she is.

Thanks everyone for your concern!

Thanks for the up date Melissa. I'm glad the vet couldn't find anything serious. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's just a fluke and Sadie is back to her normal self in no time.
