Today I brought Roy b to a daycare for orientation. We were in a small room and the owner of the daycare start to bring in a few dogs. He acts really weird and rude towards other dog. He stay around me all the time, and when other dog approach me (because I have treats in my pocket), he growl and them and want to snap them. Once I leave the room, he is fine and get along with them well. The owner told me that he had every sign of guarding me. The owner said he feels that he will be fine if he is alone with dogs without me, but we do agree better to consult with my trainer and address the problem first.

It shocks me because we went to dog park everyweek and he never had any sign of this............ i'm worried...

There are strange dogs around and you have treats, and he is in a confined area and probably quite fearful. It may be a combination of things, including telling the other dogs to stay away from his food - only natural. I would avoid taking treats into a situation like that, or his toys. Otherwise not only does he have to worry about new dogs, but new dogs who might take his most treasured things. Deska will get grumpy with other dogs (even ones he knows) if he thinks they are after 'his' treats.

Dogs will also often let off a growl to strange dogs to begin with (just to establish they are not a pushover and wont be bullied) you should watch the other dog's reactions as they are better at reading signals than we are.

Add to the mix that Roy is still an adolescent so will be a bit uncertain about himself and it may take him a while to ease into a new situation.

Is Roy desexed?

he is neutered.

Weird thing is he is not very possess with treat or food, but I guess the other doggy is so excited and they jump on to me once they know i have treat. And I do agree probably the room is way smaller then the park obviously, so he feels like he need to guard me at some point. and recently he start to bark at people outside the door, he was a really quiet sheltie who never barks, so i guess this is a sign for guarding for me....

I hope I be able to control him and teach him that they are no harm.his teenager period is gonna be tough for me haha..
