Runny nose/sneezing

Good morning everyone! A couple days ago my dad was in town with his dog (a sheltie, actually) and ever since then, Bentley has been sneezing a lot. He even had a really bad runny nose a few days ago (this seems to have dissipated). But he is still sneezing a lot, especially when he gets excited. I think he may have a lot of mucus on his throat.

A friend of mine said she thought it might be kennel cough, but he hasn't actually coughed. Is this possible?

He isn't acting any different and is eating as usual.

I plan on taking him to the vet at the end of the week if I don't notice any improvement, but thought I would ask if anyone had any similar experiences.

Thanks!

Kennel cough is exactly that, a nasty, persistant cough. I don't think a runny nose is usually a symptom.

It just sounds like he's caught a cold. Keep an eye on him and take him to the vet if he doesn't improve.

If he's really mucusy I don't think I'd wait till Friday to bring him to your vet, you might want to go sooner.

The dog I'm fostering came down with similar symptoms. She was sneezing and snorting a lot, and had a nasty runny nose.

I took her in to the vet and she was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection. They gave me about 10 days worth of medicine and after about 5 days she was already much better.

Ontario is right - kennel cough is a hacking chesty cough, runny nose isnt part of it (both the dogs next door had kennel cough recently).

Could be hayfever or a change in temp. Deska often gets a runny nose and both mine sneeze in the mornings. According to the vet D gets hayfever (just like the human kind) and I was also told the runny nose can happen when a dog goes from warm to cold or vv or after they are running around as it helps them cool down (just like panting). Deska's hayfever runny nose is clear - if the stuff coming out of Bentley's nose is mucousy then it could be an infection.
