Sadie Has a Bladder Infection On Her Birthday :(

The symptoms started on Thursday, and by Friday afternoon, Sadie was squatting to pee 3 or 4 times every time she was outside. Which for this girl, is quite unusual.

Took a urine sample along with Sadie to the vet this afternoon. Diagnosis was bladder infection. She is on antibiotics for the next two weeks, then a recheck.

Vet says it could just be fluke and only to worry if she can't get rid of the infection or if it comes and goes repeatedly do we need to do anymore testing. She has never had any type of infection before, which is good.

My Sadie acted like her normal self the whole time. It was just the urinating and one accident in the house that I just knew something wasn't right, as she hasn't had an accident in the house in 6+ months.

Anyone who has experience with bladder infections(in dogs), please list your experience. I don't want to be worried the whole time, but I don't want to be in denial that something more could be wrong. Argh!

Anyway, Sadie's 1st birthday went well. She is guarding all of her new goodies from her little sister, Kileaux, with gusto!

Happy birthday little girl. Hope you are feeling better real soon.

Natalie had a bladder infection just before her spay. It was the wetting in the house particularly on my bed that alerted me. No other symptoms.

Happy 1st Birthday, Sadie. Sorry to hear you were not well.

Sounds like you still had a fun-day. That's a good thing.

ps Get Well Soon, Sadie!

Aw poor Sadie. :( UTIs are painful.

My dog has a had a lot of bladder infections. I give her a pinch of d'mannose powder a day. It's the sugar in cranberries and helps prevents bacteria from staying in the urinary tract. It really helps my dog.

In fact I had an infection developing last week. I was in a ton of pain when I went to the bathroom. I mixed a teaspoon of d'mannose in water and was fine by the morning.

If you look into it, make sure you consult with your vet first.

Daisy had a UTI in Feb. (I think), and the antibiotics cleared it up... have not had a reoccurnance.

Happy Birthday Sadie! Hope it's all better soon!

What a great idea Randi, where do you get this from?

Happy happy birthday to Sadie!

One time Megan had a raging UTI and I had no idea until she dripped a tiny bit of blood on the floor :(

These "kids" of ours :gaah, haha! Glad Sadie enjoyed her birthday anyway..

This is the one I have: http://www.amazon.com/Now-Foods-D-M...MK90/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1337550171&sr=8-1
But I'm sure you can get it at any health or vitamin store.

I only give a tiny pinch. When I first gave it to Bailey I accidentally gave her the dosage for a 130 pound dog, which was a teaspoon. She had diarrhea for a day.

She now gets a tiny pinch 2x a day in her food.

Check with vet first because D'Mannose is a sugar and I'm sure it can affect dogs with diabetes.
