Seeking wisdom regarding neutering at what age?

Yes we do, but we can hear him humping in his crate at night sometimes. He had a small stuff toy that we had to take away from him because he was constantly at it. My granddaughter was on the floor playing and she is the perfect height for his paws to go over her shoulders in the back and he started...obviously we took him away, but she asked what he was doing. lol We said giving you a hug...she said (she has a bit of Brit daddy’s accent) Q-pa...I love you too! ha ha Kids are priceless.

Liam must have a VERY obedient personality! Brodie is an occasional humper; he seems to be fine for a while then something will set him off - I have not been able to identify that something. We tell him no, no, no every time we see him. We don't yell at him because we don't want him to be scared. Neutering definitely cut down on the amount of humping but did not stop it completely like it did with the marking - that stopped immediately.
 
Yes, I have to say Liam is extremely obedient. I am sure it does not hurt to have two other male dogs that won't put up with that behavior!
He is also on the timid side which must lend itself to him not wanting to push his luck with me, Baron, or Beau!

Colonel Underpants is 10 and has not been neutered. We've never had any problems (well, unless you count the Great Christmas Tree Watering event of 2009 :lol:). Loki, the Monkey-faced A$$hole Papillion, on the other hand, relentlessly humps Louis the cat. Like Wendy's granddaughter, Louis thinks it's a hug. :rolleyes2:

I neutered Sandstorm at 7 months because we thought that's what you do, and the vets still tell people this. SS also had a girlfriend, they were in love!! They were both fixed at the same time, I hadn't seen a lot of marking at that age. I didn't have an intact male to compare his coat with, but we've always thought he had a nice coat, when I brushed him I would get a pillowcase full of fur out. Lately due to his age, his coat has thinned.
With Minnie, we will spay her during my February vacation, she'll be just under a year old, unless she's in heat then we'll have to wait. I won't do it sooner so chances are she will go into heat before then. Again, our vet recommends 6 months, but respects our decision. Every vet we've had has recommended the 6 month mark. Good luck with whatever you decide!
 
the old time vet that neutered Danny the basset mix said 9 mths- that was in the early 90s. Cran was done at a year but Dixie was done sooner so that there was no chance of puppies there....
Jocu and Destin were both done at 2- Jo mostly because of his marking. that wasn't so much in the house but outdoors and in the pet stores when other dogs had gone previously and cleanup wasn't the best. that was embarassing....
but Jo doesn't have the thickest or longest coat- he does have some undercoat- that seems to never end when I'm brushing him. so not sure how much early neuter really affects the coat growth. I'm sure there's a lot of genetics involved in how the coat turns out.......
