Sewing patches on kennel

OK so this is kind of dog related (and I will understand if you admins delete it though). I want to sew Sca's award patches on his kennel but don't know how to sew. I tried stick on Velcro but it came off the kennel. So would one of those hand sewing machines work? It seems like you need to have a short throw and it would not work but....

Help Sca out he needs his plaques hung and his patches on his kennel so he can brag to his pals.
 
Are you looking to sew them directly to a wire kennel? And what are the badges like? Perhaps you could sew them to a wide ribbon and then tie the ribbon onto the kennel.....
 
Same question: What time of kennel? You could try speed sew or some sort of liquid stitching (like we use for gluing ears) if it is cloth sided. Or glue them on some webbing and use grommets to attach with wire or the plastic straps to the crate.

That is shea-da-Sca (yes it is big but he just kept growing so I got tired of upsizing)

I want to sew them on over the front door in the yellow so he can have them showing during Flyball tournaments :cool: Right now he has 4 about 2x4 patches or so and should get another next weekend. I liked the velcro idea since I could pull them off easy if/when he wore his kennel out. But the stick does not seem to like the canvas like kennel.
 
Try speed sew on the back of the velcro you are attaching to the crate or a heavy glue. You can get velcro glue in places like Walmart, sewing stores, etc.
 
Attempt #2 in progress (Sca benefits from a rainy 3 day weekend). The lady at hobby lobby said use E6000 instead of liquid stitch stuff they have. I cut a couple of strips and have one on the kitchen table with a weight on it to let the glue dry. If that side goes well I will do the carrier side in an hour or so.
 
Disclaimer: I don't know how to sew either (or at least correctly)

My suggestion is to just sew the velcro strip onto the crate, instead of sewing the ribbon onto it. Then you can change them out, or remove them if it's time to replace the crate.

I'm sure you could find very simple YouTube videos to show you how to do a simple stitch (like something that I know). Hey, if I can sew on a button, you can do this!

I'll be honest, if I did it, this is how it would go. Push needle from inside of crate to the outside, make sure I caught the velcro strip, then, in, out, in, out, in, out, all the way around. When I reach the starting point, tug on the velcro strip to make sure it's secure, add another stitch or two in the middle and then tie it off (which means, all I do is slip the needle under a stitch and then make a square knot - on the backside of course). I'm dead serious. It works well enough for me. LOL.

Well, assuming the heavier glue and velcro don't work, this is something you could try. I can't find a YT video of a simple stitch. If you want, I can make one.
 
I use E6000 for many crafts. Are you using it to adhere the velcro? If you're using it directly on ribbons or patches, they'll never come off. That stuff is permanent!
