Shedding sheltie

Since this is the first shelties that I've owned, can anyone tell me how often they shed? My lab shed 364 days a year!
My male 3 year old sable Jack is shedding now-- gobs of fur--he may go bald. Fortunately he loves being brushed and will lay as long as you want. Jack has straight fur but any undercoat is going fast.
Little Beetle Bug, the 3 year old female still is holding on to her tripple coat of black fur. Her coat is short and wavy.
Should they be brushed every day?

Shedding

Coat shedding generally happens twice per year, during March/April when the Summer coat comes in and September/October for the Winter coat. At least here in Scotland.

It's not unusual for the undercoat to look bald, it should grow back in.

I give my dogs an omega capsule twice weekly and I've never had a problem with any of the girls coats.

Yeh they sure cast alot of fur I find one good grooming per week is adequate with a quick brush daily to keep coat tidy.

Hope that helps a bit.

Despite regular brushing, my furkids drop hair all the time. At our house, dog hair's a condiment!

Try getting a Furminator. We have two indoor shelties, so if we don't groom them, we'll have tumbleweeds of hair blowing through the house.

We love the furminator www.furminator.com watch the videos -- you'll be amazed

If you furminate them about once every two weeks, you'll notice a CONSIDERABLE reduction in shedding. And it would be good for the Lab, too.

I tried the Furminator on my first sheltie, an elderly boy who used to be a showdog, so a big thick long coat! I couldn't get anything off of him with the Furminator! It didn't work, didn't grab the fur at all.

So I simply used an inexpensive undercoat rake on my sheltie, which worked great. I gave the Furminator to my sister to use on her 1/2 Irish Wolfhound 1/2 English Mastiff boy dog, and it worked like a charm on his short coat that sheds like crazy.

For my new sheltie girl, I just use that old undercoat rake on her, and run it over her quickly every couple days when I'm out in the yard with her. Takes less than 30 seconds, and keeps her shedding in check. When she's blowing coat, I'll do a quick run over her coat once every day.

The Furminator??

When you use the furminator did you have to use their shampoo and conditioner and do they have to be freshly bathed or can this be done on a dry coat any time?

Thanks, no I didn't see that before, thanks for the link. I have one coming sometime this week (I hope), I will let you know what I think of it and how the "KIDS" like it. I only hope that I ordered the right size since one is a puppy and the others are over sized.

Thanks again
