Sheltie and Maine Coon kitten

Definitely true. Pierre was quite outweighed at 8 lbs. Chance was a great big brother to him and they would play quite a bit.

Somehow I missed this thread!

My part maine coon really loves being a member of our pack. I have found that maine coons (and what I have read, too) are fairly playful cats, and really fit in well with dogs.

I always joke that mine thinks he is a sheltie. He and the dogs take turns chasing each other around. Just make sure that the cat has a way to get away, if need be (and he'll find one!). Also, it's nice to have a command to get the dogs to leave him alone if he's not in the mood.

Here are my two trying to play with my kitty when he's not really in the mood:

Thought I would post an update. We got our Maine Coon kitten (Carley) about two weeks ago. She has had free reign of the house for a week. She and Izzie (our Sheltie) are doing great together. Sleeping on the couch near each other and also in bed with us. Carley even sneaks a piece or two of food from Izzie's dog dish when Izzie is eating. Izzie doesn't flinch. Overall a very good experience. Thanks for all of the thoughts! :smile2:

Hi ... years later, wondering if you would mind sharing an update? We are considering an available Maine Coon. We lost our older Sheltie two years ago so our house has one very spoiled 4-yr old Sheltie who I think (hope) would love the companionship. I work from home so have the ability to oversee the transition pretty closely. Thank you for any thoughts or updates.
