HI, I am sistybabe, and I'm looking for a healthy, well adjusted, smart tricolor Sheltie within 100 miles of Cincinnati, OHio.

Have parented 2 male sables that were so very dear! Casey passed the Friday after the Twin Towers came down. Sparky came to us about a month later. Both beautiful sables, one with a blaze, the other with a sweet plain face. So, my American Sparkle died May of this year, 5 weeks shy of 15!

We are now ready, and need to have a Sheltie back in our lives. Found no breeders in the area. Talked to Sparky's 1st family. Talked to our vet. No luck.

Leary about online dog shopping, but don't know what else to do. Can anyone help?..

There are two places I'd recommend starting:

2 - The American Shetland Sheepdog Association: http://www.assa.org/breeders.html

The former is the Sheltie breed club in the Cincinnati area. The latter is the national parent club for the breed. Those are your best resources for finding a breeder near you.

The Assa was invaluable in helping us get started on our search for a breeder even though we were looking for an adult not a puppy. We were fortunate that local breeders put us in touch with other breeders when they didn't have dogs.

Just about the time we found our dog we were considering attending a local dog show where some of the breeders were going to be attending as a way to broaden our network.

interestingly, while not looking for puppies at the time, I met my breeders through this forum
