Sweet Petunia

I am so happy to hear that Connie, one of our SN forum members, wants to adopt Petunia! Also happy that there are some other people who are asking about her. Little sweetheart sure deserves someone special to take care of her and give her lots and lots of love, hugs and kisses. This is really good news. I too am praying that there were no metastases from the tumor and Sweet Petunia can live many more happy years. God bless her and all the wonderful people who care so much about this little girl.

I just read Sander's website and am crying right now....
it is a very touching tribute

I really hope petunia finds her home and has someone who loves her as much as Connie loved her Cinnamondog....
 
Oh I was so let down to see that Petunia's tumor was cancerous - hopefully if encapsulated it hadn't had a chance to spread. I really was astounded to see Connie's post and offer to adopt Petunia and attempt to work her magic on her to prolong her life. Wow.

So nice to hear SN contributed 90% of the money, too - we sure pulled together as a group, and I am proud and satisfied by this.

Amy, please forward my best wishes and a hug to Petunia via her foster Dads.

Yes, there's a potential home, relatively locally for Petunia.

TSSSR will not often adopt out more than 100 miles or so, for the long-term safety of the dog. Unless we have volunteers in a particular area, it would be difficult -- if the adoption were to not work out and we'd have to get the dog back; or if the dog were to get lost, it would be difficult and expensive not having some of our volunteers (or another close Sheltie Rescue Group to assist) in the area. We have had a few people interested in adopting Petunia, but as far as I know, only 1 in the tri-state area. We have had wonderful offers from Florida, Chicago, and Texas!!! She truly is loved!!! And we're so thankful and appreciate everyone's help and continued support!
 
The rescue I work with here in Illinois has a similar policy. :) I would feel a bit apprehensive about sending a dog, especially a special needs dog, so far away to an adoptive home that was unknown to me, so while I really would love to have Petunia, I also understand that she should stay within the TSSSR area.

If whoever adopts Petunia would like a copy of Sander's Book I would be happy to send one to them, and I would also be happy to be a resource for them if they decide to use some of the same protocols for Petunia that I used for Sander.

I have had senior Shelties that I adopted live to be 18, 16, 15 -- the Sheltie who lived to 15, Angus, had surgery to remove a malignant retained testicle when he was about 8, and then lived another 7 years before he developed bladder cancer at the end of his life. So there is no telling what these dogs can do one they are in a good home with good care, diet, etc.! I hope Petunia has many more happy and comfortable years ahead of her.
