Sheltie Photographer

Last week the organizer of Austin Sheltie Rescue asked me if I would be willing to take photos of the incoming shelties for the rescue page!! I am very flattered, and of course I said, "Yes!!". The problem is I don't drive, but there is a ride service that can take me up to Austin twice a week, and I would be willing to do that to get good pics of the pups. I saw an article on the Today Show that explained the fact many dogs do not get adopted because of "bad marketing". I am not a professional photographer, but I take decent pics of all things, and my speciality is shelties!

If it works out, I would be willing to take pics of the local pets up for adoption at the nearby pound, which may help them get adopted as well. Since I am on disability, I don't need to get paid, it would be a way of giving back.

Just thought I would brag a bit! I will post when my first shots are on the rescue page!

Good for you . Indeed a good photo really does help them get adopted. It gets them interest and in the case of a shelter gets people to come see them . The cuter , cleaner and happier they look the better.

That's great Beth! I have found that doing something to help others sometimes helps the depression also. It may be good for you in many ways. Can't wait to see your pics.

That's awesome! I just thought that I would mention that a few of us on here have formed a group on Flickr where the main aim is to improve our photography skills. Obviously most of the photos are sheltie related! Maybe you would be interested in joining?

How wonderful Beth! That is so nice that they asked and that you are able to give back that way. Happy photo taking!!

Me! Me! Me! I would love to join! I am not a professional, to say the least, but I try harder!!!! AND, I've been seriously considering trying to start volunteering to take pictures of pets at rescues and/or shelters - there is a professional pet photographer in my area that does just that ... and the animals she photographs are far more likely to be adopted.

Oh that is awesome!!! I definitely think a picture can help sell an adoption. :) Can't wait to see your photos.

I was going to suggest the Flikr group too. Um, can we post that here? I'm not sure. Better be safe and PM me if you want a link to the group. You'll have to have, or sign up with a Yahoo/Flikr account (free) and then I (or another mod) will approve you.

You can get great ideas and just have fun with us too!!!!

That sounds like a great idea!

*sigh* I really wish I had time to get back involved with the Flikr group. I miss that group and the fantastic pictures that were being posted. Sometimes my life is just too busy. :(

Beth, that is just the coolest thing!!!! What a great gift to the Shelties -- and other dogs -- of the world!
