I'm sorry about all of my questions lately, where trying to get a variety of answers & information on the breed. Where planning to purchase A sheltie in the summer.

Basic Training Question:
How Long Does It Take To Housebreak A Sheltie?

What Sports Does The Sheltie Excel In? Where wanting to be involved in variety of sports & actives?

Welcome to the boards. You will get a lot of helpful information here.

Shelties are very smart (sometimes to smart for their own good). Our first sheltie was housebroken and had full run of the house by 4 mos. She was very much a people pleaser. Shelby was more difficult to house train. It took her until 6 or 8 mos and we still crate her when we go to work. Shelby is definitely smarter and knows how to be very sneaky, we had to learn how to be one step ahead of her. If she gets away with something just once she will continue to do so. She is almost 3 now and has matured into a very well behaved little girl. She is not a people pleaser and would just look at you like she was saying "yeah I chewed that, big deal get over it, can we play now?"

You can do anything with a sheltie. Obedience, agility, flyball etc.

We look forward to seeing puppy pictures and hearing your adventures! Shelties are awesome fun loving pups.

Two of my Shelties were housebroken with a few weeks. Natalie I still have a few issues with but it is because the dogs are home alone now all day. If I have to I crate her. The two older dogs (at 3) have the run of the house.

You can do anything sport you want with them. I am in the process right now of getting Emma evaluated as a therapy dog. There are members here who have therapy dogs. They can also be service dogs. Sca is a huge flyball dog now. Others here are into obedience, agility, herding. Shelties are very smart, too much so at times. They will pick up whatever activity you want to get them into. They live to please.

Choose a sheltie sport that you would like to do, your sheltie will find fun what you find fun! shelties excel in agility, herding, obedience, tracking, freestyle, frisbee! I even tried dock diving with my sheltie!

Pick a puppy that has confidence.

Agreed shelties can do anything. I have done some weight pulling with my dogs and I have a friend who has a carting title on their sheltie. I also know some who have done lure coursing.

The right temperment and they can do it all.

The housetraining will be much easier if your breeder has the litter going outside to potty with Mom, instead of on papers in the puppy pen.

Much of the house training will depend on your ability to get the puppy outside at the right time, and being consistent in routine with an older puppy.

We have just officially declared Draco as potty trained. He is between three and four months old and it took us three weeks :smile2:
