I'm glad you are taking action for your pup. Smudge has such a sweet face. You know, he will probably turn into a more grounded dog because of his traumas. And you should not feel guilty because no matter who he had been sold to, this would have happened. In fact, feel proud that you have the heart to go through it with him.

I am so sorry this is just dragging on and on for you.

A couple of things, yes your new vet should be able or to just make a phone call and have Smudge's record moved forward by fax, snail mail or whatever, so it will not be uncomfortable for you. I agree, I hate uncomfortable situations when I have other things to worry about (in your case, long hours of work and Smudge's illness)

Try the silver, we have used it around here and it really works. Be really consistent with it. Mange is stubborn and you have to be more so!

And your new vet really should be able to have consultations over the phone with a dermatologist about his eye, I would think.

Also, my opinion, but it does look like you are winning the war, it looks better than it had, but yes I see a battle flaring up again. Keep fighting it and we will keep praying and fighting from here.

Hey, Oct 4th is St Francis Day. Is there a local parish nearby? Go have him blessed! If you go, make sure he gets a good soaking of Holy Water!!!:yes:
 
You can easily transfer your records, Jessica, but you'll most likely have to write a note to your old vet to get it done. You won't have to call or go in there. In most cases, the old vet won't send out records without permission from the owner. When I did it, I just wrote a note saying I appreciated all their service to me but I felt my dogs needed more specialized treatment and would they please send the records to the new vet. That should be all it takes.

Your plan sounds like a good one and the new vet promising. Referrals from people who go there are always the best source! And remember, you can always go for a consult to see how you like them before you make the switch.

You are doing a great job caring for Smudge and I'm sure he knows it. He is so lucky to have you! Hang in there!! Sending hugs and prayers. :yes:
 
I'm kicking myself mentally in the butt! I've been meaning to suggest to you for weeks now that you really needed to go see another vet, if for no other reason than a second opinion. From the start, I was uncomfortable with the 4 dips, particularly, since the vet wasn't really sure of the diagnosis in the first place (as I recall). That was the first alarm bell! And I should have spoken out then.

As others have said, don't wait for the last dip. Go see another vet and give him/her Connie's dermatologist contact info.

After talking to people at work I've gotten great reviews for two different vets. So I can't decide which one I want to go. Both involve surgeries (one a leg surgery and one an eye surgery!). The vet who did the eye surgery is closer so I'm thinking maybe I should try it instead of the other one.

I'm going to be calling the dermatologist the same day I go to the vet. This new vet is in a larger town, so I might not be able to get in the same day I call. We'll see.

I have pictures of Smudge's eye, but I'll have to upload them later. I have to go to work! The area that was bleeding/cracked is now a bald spot. :(
 
Glad to hear that you will be changing vets and calling the specialist too. I hope that this is the beginning of the end for you and Smudge's troubles.
 
I feel so sorry for you, I would be screaming. I am thrilled you are changing vets, you and Smudge deserve so much better. I swear some of these people scream cha chang (I WANT YOUR MONEY), the heck with the results.

I drove by the vet's office this morning after work, and I feel very good about it. After hearing my boss's story about her dog having positive results from an eye surgery there I went and checked it out. They are advertising a new kind of laser surgery on their front door. So instead of making the appointment today I will be making it tomorrow. I have tomorrow off, and I want to go inside the vet's office and make the appointment myself. That way I can get a feel of the place. If I don't like the atmosphere then I will simply ask for a flea pill (I promised my grandmother I would buy her pom one to try) and walk out. There are still several other vets in the area. I feel this is a good plan, because if I make the appointment over the phone it won't tell me a whole lot. I'd much rather talk to somebody in person. :yes:

My dad works at an army depot, and as a result he travels a lot. He often times goes to Korea, Germany, and a lot of other European countries in addition to going to Oklahoma and Texas a lot for his job. He brought this box home with him (not sure if the actual print is Korean words though) after going to Korea. He was saying he wanted somebody to go to Korea with him - Smudge wants to go to avoid seeing the vet! Remember to take your shoes off before you get to the metal detector, Smudge!
 
I can't believe how big he's getting! Seems like just yesterday, you were bringing the wee mite home!

His colour is changing too....looks like he has a little red sable in him. Bacca has it too, and I love it!

I hope the new vet is more to your liking and has some better treatment ideas for Smudge. We are all checking in on your little guy to see how he's doing. I know I check this thread several times a day! I love the pictures; Gavin poses for the camera now since I took his pic so often as a pup.
