Shelties Are Highly Intelligent

I'm not knocking other breeds, but so far, Shelties have exibited more intelligence than any other dogs we've had.

I mentioned in another discussion area here that one of our dearly departed Shelties, Rusty, was a natural at herding, even though he had never been formally trained as such.

And, LOL, you CAN carry on a conversation with them and they seem to understand what it is you're saying! I always have cuddle time with our two Shelties, Sparky and Max, and I talk to them as I would a friend, which of course, they are!

I totally agree

We've had other breeds as well that were supposed to be smart, but I am completely amazed at how quickly she picks things up. She's almost 4 months old and knows all of our names and both the cats names. We tell to find a certain person/cat, she goes looking and finds the right one :eek2:

And I just know she understand everything I'm saying to her  And yes, I talk to her like I would a friend.

I've only ever been owned by three dogs and they have all been shelties, two girls and one boy. My girls were/are the smartest dogs you could ever imagine, Arran on the other hand is as dumb as they come , he does however give the best face washes I've ever had :rolleyes2:. I've just bought a new d.v.d. showing you how to teach your dog tricks, with Arran I may be a while .

I would'nt have any other breed, since we had our first sheltie, can't beleive sometimes that they are sooooo smart. We have 4 now and each one is different, all very smart in their own way. :smile2:

Shelties Rule !!

I agree Wholeheartedly, by far Shelties are a very inteligent and Fun breed. That look !!:lol:Only a sheltie can give that look of , I know what you are thinking, I swear they do.:eek2:We have now joined the owned by Shelties forum.
Terri , you are funny , good thing Aaran doesn't have a clue as to what you are saying, but the Girls do. Poor Aaran , It's probably that male gene deficit.

I agree wholeheartedly-- Tex is so smart it's scary. Once he wandered in my room so I pointed at the door and said "leave please" and he turned and walked right out. I never taught him to do that!

This is really silly but once I was talking to someone and I said "chaos theory" and Tex wheels around and stares at me with the strangest expression, almost like he was saying, "You know I invented the theory". That was wierd, and really random!

Our little girl Pixie can outthink us. :uhoh: We actually have to spell words like "out" and "car" and "go". The trouble is, she's learned the spellings! If we spell b-a-r-n she goes straight to the back door and waits. Waaay too smart!

LOL, they ARE smart! I always tell my Shelties what grade they'll be starting in when school begins each year, LOL!

And aren't they adorable when you talk to them and they cock their heads to the side? Darling!
