A few days ago these same people were selling 3 adult dachshunds, 1 collie, and one sheltie. I guess they are looking for a small sheltie to breed with their small girls. The other male was too big.

I found my perfect, wonderful baby on craigslist. Don't hate on it because you haven't found something great on it. It's a good tool.

Luckily, I have never seen a sheltie on our craigslist. If I did, I'd forward it to the sheltie/collie rescue near me. I have though seen sheltie puppies at pet stores both in VA and in PA. It breaks my heart, they're always so tiny. I go back a month later or sooner and the dog is always gone though so I just hope someone is caring for it correctly.

THere's a ground swell to end the sale of companion animals on Kijiji, Craig's List and through pet stores here in Canada. I realize it won't save every dog and cat but it will help.
The woman that owned the mill that Tinsel came from would look for those free or cheap dogs and then take her young granddaughter with her so that people would think she was a loving home for their dog.
I too will contact people that are trying to rehome a pet and make them aware of rescues and why it is better to go through them. Yes, not all people that advertise are awful but they aren't likely to help out during the dog's lifetime once they get a cheque either.

I have no idea how I missed the debut of the "Craig's List" thread back in May, but the last two days of comments caught my eye. I don't know much about the website, but following the comments here, I took a quick look and found that there are indeed still dog ads listed in Central Ohio (one of the two areas where I reside). In truth, I did not open the headlined links, but there are ads for dogs. (I will also check Central Indiana when I have time).
That said, this entire conversation is deeply troubling to me on several levels (waaay beyond the Craig's List sellers).
Our dog Sally was listed on Craig's list and was rescued by a client that comes to our veterinary hospital.
I just happened to be working the night she came in with Sally , who was just 4 mos. at the time. My husband always said we could get a dog if it was a sheltie, a female and free- he was kidding of course. Sally met all of those requirements and came home with me that night. She is the sweetest dog I have ever had and we can't imagine our home without her.
The client who rescued Sally from Craig's list has rescued others and if she is unable to place them she keeps them. She is concerned about a puppy mill operator picking up free or cheaply priced dogs and using them for breeding as Tagg mentioned.I hate to think that Sally could have met that fate...she is so sensitive. So sometimes, getting a dog off Craig's list is a rescue move, giving a dog who needs a home, a home-unconditionally.
