Shletie hair color fading

Hi everyone,

I have a 5 years old Tricolor Sheltie, I started to notice that some hair in my sheltie was starting to fade and turing more white, near the mouth around the nose and some hairs at the sides of the head.

What Can I do, He eats NutraGold Chicken Flavor, Is there a good supplement that I can use, and of course, is this normal?

Thanks : )

Wow -- finally someone else is facing this. My Layla, a sable, now has white ears. It happened over about three weeks. Her "mascara" went white as well. No one could tell me why.

I suspect it's one of two things. One is she is heavily white factored. The effect may have just emerged late. The second is that she carries a graying gene.

It's not a coat or skin issue. It's genetic.

Bottom line, not sure...:confused2:

My Hamish went really white around the muzzle towards the end of his life. I saw my sister's black lab do the same thing. I also noticed that Emma, at nearly three, has lighted up (she is the sable) around the eyes.

Sadie just turned 5 this weekend, her muzzle seems to get a little whiter each year. There's nothing you can do about it, its the same as getting grey hair as you get older.

My parent's have an 11 year old sheltie. As he's gotten older his eye lashes have gone from red to white. Its actually really cute.

Layla's white ears are SUPER COOL!

Otherwise the white is just a sign of senior dog

Layla looks like she has frosting. Very beautiful, certainly not a day over two ... :) Justus said she was the Marilyn Monroe type.

Hair color changed after grooming!

My husband groomed Max on sat. Sunday we had him at friends pool and I kept saying Max hair on top of his head is lighter! Tonight my husband said Max got grey on the top of his head! Duh! Men. It literally happened over night, he is 5 and a half!

Yup, sounds like "aging" to me. Some dogs seem to gray earlier than others. My 14 yo, really doesn't have gray on his face. It's more than when he was 5, but not a ton. I know my younger dog's dad had a white face and he was on the younger side too. So, I'm assuming Koji will go white earlier. And Miko won't at all. Or it'll take awhile.

(if you look at my profile pics of my dogs, you'll see Miko and he looks like that now too. No one ever believes he's 14).
