Silly Question?????????

Let me preface this silly question with some explanation. All my life, I have had little lapdogs (mainly Shih Tzu's). The thing I love about The Shih Tzu breed is how they want to touch you, on your lap, beside you, on your feet, you just can't shake 'em:wink2:

I love my little Evie but can't seem to get her to "cuddle". She follows me all over the house, loves to play and go on walks but doesn't seem to want to cuddle. She is only 9 months old. Is this something they develop as they get older? I've only been around one other Sheltie, my daughter's 6 year old tri. She is a cuddler now but my daughter tells me that wasn't the case when she was Evie's age. Missin' that cuddle time, what are your thoughts and experiences?
 
I think they all have different personalities. Of my two, one is a cuddler...but she will also separate from me and go into another room to sleep, if she gets tired and wants quiet. The other is not a cuddler--but would never, ever leave a room that I'm in.
 
Tala never wanted to be held really. Though if we would nap on the couch he would sleep on top/beside us there. Jester however jumps into my lap all of the time.
 
Sammy is 7 months old and not really a cuddler, but I kind of force myself on him. This works well when he's worn out from exercise or ready to settle down in the evening. I will sit on the floor and as soon as he comes over I start stroking his head or rubbing his chest and tummy. He usually melts and reluctantly admits that he rather likes it! The next thing I know he's either in my lap or pressed up against my leg. Janet
 
Oh, please don't give up! Try cuddling Evie when she's tired. I know they're all different, but I really think it's important to have this closeness with our dogs. Janet
 
Blake will let me coddle him just like a baby. There is no end to the cuddling he wants. He was rocked every day in his early weeks as a puppy by his breeder. Something she does all the time with her puppies.

Trapp loves being near me,as close as he can get.He will lay in my arms as well with no resistance.
Jasper..not so much. He will stay on my lap,but it must be on his terms.He has never ever been a cuddler.

Mia..well since Brian is her numero uno person,she will be on his lap,as long as he is sitting down & at home. Me..not so much.She will lay close to me,but does not ever climb on my lap like she does Brian.
 
Shelby is not a cuddler. She likes to be held when you are standing but once you sit down she is done. On the rare occasion she does sit with you don't touch her or she will leave. She wants to be with us just not on us. She is a lot more cuddly as she is getting older. I honestly don't mind b/c as much as I like to cuddle I don't think I want an dog that is constantly on top of me.

Our angel Hollie wasn't much of a cuddler either.
 
My Callie is a cuddler, but on her own terms. On the weekends I frequently have an afternoon nap in my recliner in the living room, and about 1/3 of the time she wants to come up and have a nap with Mom. Other times she runs about until I give up or go to bed in self defense, and sometimes she'd rather be on the couch snoozing by herself. Hard to know what the difference is.

She almost always wants to come up on my lap first thing in the morning for pats and a cuddle, but she doesn't want to stay very long.

My daughter's Shelby, who is Callie's sister, is almost the exact opposite. She rarely sits on their laps, but is perfectly happy to be carried around like a baby. It definitely depends on the Sheltie!
