Snarls behind the ears

Barb

I used cornstarch behind Emma's ears (very matted and snarled) a week ago last Wednesday to loosen the knots. I did have to cut some off. She had one very tiny snarl Wednesday night and none since. The cornstarch seemed to do the trick of keeping the hair from snarling. I was so happy not to have the snarls and so was she.

Mats behind the ears

With my old boy, I would grab the mat next to the skin and using the last tooth in a comb I would split the mat apart. It would take a few minutes, but grabbing at the based saved him from feeling the tug of his hair. Our 2 little ones have not had much problem yet with mats, but I know, as sure as they are shelties, there will be mats

Zak had a huge mat on his neck today and I just used baby powder and go it untangled and only had to cut off one little piece. I also got him a new rolled leather collar.
