so last night i had to take Jasper to emergency again...

thank you all for the tips and alternatives to crating him... I'm so lucky hes alive... not only because hes just 6 months old.. but because hes a runt 6 month old that is the size of a 3-4 month old pup... so now i just have to moniter his electrical burn and keep giving him his antibiotic and pain meds and hopefully all will be well. Doc said it would take atleast three days for the swelling to go down and it was down in less than 24 hours so i'm thinking hes pretty resilient. As i type hes making a fort out of blankets behind me on the bed. As i was on the phone with the emergency hosp. after it happened he was playing fetch with me...

thank god he is such a tough cookie...

never again i hope.. idk what i would have done if this went a different way.. ugh i can't even think it...
 
I think Shelties are a really hardy breed. At 6 months Tully chewed through a small lighter, ate the plastic and sucked on lighter fluid (on a Sunday of course). She was the runt too. Since then we have had 3 other dashes to the emergency vet (yes including chewed computer cord) - although we have gotten better, no dashes to any vet for 2months now!

I think the smaller the package the bigger the trouble.:rolleyes2:

Anything long Romeo loved to chew and wires were one of them! I had to put those plastic wire organiser tubey things around all the wires in the house AND tape or blue-tac them to a height he couldn't reach. The house looked weird with all the wires hanging off the wall! But he lost the habit of chewing wires and after teething, I could put the wires down and he never went for them again. Sigh!

We hope Jasper's doing alot better now! He's one strong pup! It must have given you a fright. I might have banned electricity in the house if that happened to Romeo coz I can be very paranoid. Haha! Our thoughts are with you and Jasper!
 
Sorry to hear about Jasper's close call with electricution; and I hope that his burns heal quickly.

My sis lost one of her Yorkie puppies to chewing through an extension cord. Puppies hit the teething phase and will chew on just about anything. We keep Angus in Xpen enclosures in the house. There are just too many electrical items in this house to let him roam around much.
 
Oh my goodness! What a stinker! I will keep you both in my thoughts! I hope that Jasper recoveries quickly.

I keep both of my girls in their crates anytime we are gone. At 1 1/2 yrs. old Marlie was still chewing on things at times when we were paying attention. It's for their own safety and both girls go and get in their crates on their own about 5 minutes before I have to leave every day. It's a routine and they don't have a problem with it.
