Hi Forum Fam!

Some of you may remember my memorial post last summer for my beloved Betty Cocker, who was decidedly Not A Sheltie but nevertheless a very good dog.

Some of you may also remember that my mother has been breeding/showing Shelties for a long time (thirty years now, wow!).

I haven't really been posting in my post-Betty phase, but I think it's time for me to come out and share some news...

After Betty died, I was absolutely gutted. I needed a dog. I knew it wouldn't fill the little spaniel-sized hole in my heart, but having a dog to care for and train and love on would help. And, my mom had been bugging me to think about one of her retired bitches, who was just turning four but had a very soft temperament. Could I take her for a few months, to install some confidence and training, so Mom would feel more ready to place her in a pet home - ie. not my pet home?

Well, okay. So I brought her home. "This is only temporary!" I told mom. "Just for a few months! It's too soon for us to get another forever-dog," I told my husband. "She's just a foster!" I told the neighbors. "Definitely not a permanent resident!"

So, I bet you can all guess how that turned out! :ROFLMAO: She is still here, one year later, to the surprise of absolutely no one but me.

My husband and I still joke about our "temporary" dog. She is slowly but surely blossoming into a sweet, sassy, snuggly Sheltie girl. She has gone from being petrified of all men to demanding that my husband pet her. We love her so much.

Here's Gigi! She isn't very easy to photograph, because her favorite place to be is right on top of me...

I simply couldn't be more happy for you. I know the emotional struggle when a loved one passes, we were offered Faith less than a month after Asta passed and I thought I'd lose my mind over the decision. Wasn't ready, too soon, too torn up, yada yada. Then I read something that said when you have a difficult decision to make, go with love, not fear. So, I told my hubby, "It would be the easiest thing to just say NO. But what if we are passing up a fabulous dog?" And, the rest is history.

Gigi is simply gorgeous and what a lucky dog to be yours, even if it took some time for her to worm her way into your heart. Maybe Betty Cocker sent her to you, knowing how much you needed a new friend. Congrats!!! :hugs Looking forward to hearing some Gigi stories.
PS your mom is a sly one.....

Oh Megan...lucky Gigi and lucky you. I know how impossible it can seem to even envision a new doggie in any way being able to fill the huge empty space left when you lose a heart doggie, but thankfully our hearts can expand and eventually welcome another little soul. We can never "replace" but we can love again. Gigi is lovely and I am so happy for you that she is no longer a "temporary" member of your family. Congratulations to Gigi and to you!
