something is wrong with jasper (pics) Please help!

Ok, so i was playing with jasper the other day and asked him to give me five, and felt something pointy... and noticed on his carpal pad (the one higher up by his "wrist") a weird pointy pale growth...then i checked the other one.. and the same weird thing was there.. it looks like a growth of some kind.. like a wart. I took him to the groomer to see if she knew what it could be, she said just a callous. But to me it does not look like a callous and idk what it is.. i called several vets and no one can help based off of a description. I can't afford a vet visit right now, so if it is a callous i dont wanna pay 57 bucks if i can help it. I'm out of work and only have literally 40 bucks to my name. I will ask my parents for money is you guys know that it isnt a callous.

I'm hoping someone has seen something like this before and its nothing to worry about. Jasper is the love of my life, and i would just die if something happened to him.

When i talked to my normal vet he said its very rare to find something symetrical like that, because i was worried about cancer... he said its very unlikely... and if it helps jasper is only 1 year and not even 4 months old.

Just my oppinion.

From the looks of it , I compared it to Kias and it seems most likely to be just a callous. Try rubbing some foot balm for mushers on the pads. Like a beg balm.
 
Some one will chime in on what they think those "calluses?" are. We have great knowledgeable people here, but I wanted to put a thought out there because we are unemployed and can't afford vet bills. Ron and I barter our vet services. In fact next weekend we are painting some of the vet's office space (front office, an examine room and rest room). Our vet said he would even take office and filing work as bartering. So it is just a thought for you.

Bartering was a way of life not all that long ago. We have a group up in in the White mountains of NH that does just that. You submit your skills and if there is a service you require then they see if they can put you in contact with someone who can help you while you trade your skills for something they need done.
My vet will allow us to pay in installments if the procedure is too expensive. But as she says it's only things she provides not for Lab work that goes out or Ultrasounds that are done by a visiting vet once a week.

I think it's just the "adult" pad texture coming in. Here's my line of thinking:

- He's under 4 months old (still a baby!)
- It's on both sides
- and it looks like normal adult paw-pad texture.

When they're puppies, the pads are smooth and soft (and often pink!). Adult pads have that rough texture... it can almost look like stringy dried meat (ok, that was gross, but I'm trying to describe it). My best guess would be that he's just growing up. :smile2: Keep an eye on it (and the other pads) and see if the change doesn't continue.

I don't know....only a vet could confirm what you dog has for sure.

Maybe do a google search on viral papillomas. It looks like some type of a papilloma to me...just because of the "cauliflower" like look to it. Viral Papilloma is a more scientific term for wart. Warts are common on dogs under two years of age...but they are usually around the mouth, although I think they can get them on their feet.

He's not under four months hes under a YEAR and 4 months lol but yea the stringy meat description totally fits. It's a little pale in color and looks a little bigger than the little part of the pad itself. i'm hoping its just normal like most ppl are saying so far.. thanks so much everyone... <333
 
I somehow missed this thread. Its hard to see the pictures clearly, but the areas look like calluses. The fact that is on both legs is good, cancer is not usually symmeterical. I would recommmend putting some bag balm or kerasol(for foot calluses in people) on it. A small amount will dod it and soft =en the area. If the areas continue to get worse have the vet check it out.
