Mui Mui is 9 months old and she will get spay this saturday, I started worry about her now.
I have another male neutured shetlie at home , I think I need to seperate them.
How long she need to recover for surgery? and how to take care of her in this period.
She love to jump, I think it's hard to claim her down not to jump.
any suggestion will be appreciated. thanks
 
My Eva is 11 months now and she is going to have spay soon.

I think keep her crated for around 3 days. Definitely do not let her jump.
To keep her away from your male, I don't think that is necessary.
 
Che was just neutered 10 days ago at 1 year old. It took him about 8 days to get back to his usual level of energy. Since girls have more extensive surgery I would think it might be even longer.
What I have noticed that given opportunity Che had limited his own activities- he is very active dog and was running up and down the stairs same evening but when presented with chance to play with Sammy/ their games are usually very intense and rough at times/ did not take a chance and was very low key with her until recently.
I did provide Che with lots of slow walking through the day to compensate for his usual miles of "running with a wind".
 
at first, I want to spay mui mui when she is 1, but everyone and all vet suggested her to get spay before her first heat, so....
I dont see her first heat yet, I think I didnt miss it.
I seperated with the male sheltie because I worry about he will hurt her when she is receover.
 
i would suggest to spay her after her first heat.
Many people say it is to let her hormones and everything be balanced first. And if the dog has a sharp temperament, it is better to have first heat bfore spaying.

Also, after the heat, you have to wait about 3 months before you can spay the dog. This is due to waiting for the whole heat cycle to be complete.
 
We had a really hard time keeping our girl quiet for any length of time. They recommended 10 days, I think we made it 5. She was pretty much back to her normal self the next day.

The best thing that we did was to invest in an indoor xpen, and at least she had a little bit of room and didn't have to sit in her crate all day. Unfortunately, she wanted to be running and jumping right away, so we had to put her in the pen any time we weren't watching her like a hawk.

We also used a baby onesie (little baby outfit that buttons at the bottom) to keep her from licking or biting at her incision. It worked really well, and she didn't have to have the cone.

I remember when my gf's Cocker Spaniel got spayed. The vet gave her a cone to wear for a week, some anti-biotics, and hydralizine (itchy med). Took about 2 weeks to completely heal.

For the first 1-2 days she would be calm because I guess it still hurt but after that then they act normal.
 
Fluffy was spayed at just over 6 months. Fluffy is also a chewer.

A serious chewer. She has ripped the arms off a sock monkey, dismembered a dog teddy bear, destuffed a blue bone, ect. (there's lots more!).

It seriously made me want to throw up thinking about what she would do to her stitches. :dead: :uhoh:

So I bought her an outfit. A very smashing pink! Although in this picture she didn't have it on all the way because I was standing right there. It was a onesie.

On the front I think it said "Busy Bee". HAHAHA! I bought a whole package of them. At the time of her spay she was about 17 pounds, and I had to buy her the biggest baby size I could find in a onesie. It was kind of too small for her.
