sticky, smelly skin rash

My 9 year old sheltie has been battling a skin rash which has turned to being a sticky, smelly rash-any ideas on how to relieve it?
 
I would take your sheltie to the veterinarian to have it looked at. There are many reasons for rashes, allergies (to food and environment), staph, mites, fungus etc. etc. Keep us updated.
 
From someone who is taking care of an eldery sheltie with bad skin, I, too say time for the vet. I don't like putting my animals on any medicine, but sometimes there's no other way around it.
 
Yes, i could not get an appt right away. I have been putting hot spot spray on it which was also recommended by the vet. She doesn't seem to be irritated by it as far as it being itchy. i will let you know the progress. Thanks !
 
Yes, please let us know how she does at the vet visit.

PS In the meantime, you might want to soak her in the tub in warm water with some baking soda mixed in. (baking soda is very soothing)
 
Today I had a grooming appointment for Shilo. The groomer knew what the rash was from right away. It seems that when I was bathing her in our tub, I didn't dry her throughly especially in her "creases" therefore it caused this sticky rash. The groomer cleaned it all up and it is 100 percent better! I have to take her in again next week for another bath.
 
What are you feeding?

Could be skin allergies.

It could also be winter syndrome....dogs inside more in hot, dry conditions. You might want to consider a food high in Omega 3 (e.g. Salmon oil) or supplements
