sticky, smelly skin rash

I have been feeding her Incredibites dog food, softened with beef stock. She has been losing teeth and it is now hard for her to chew on hard food. I also give her a can of mighty dog soft food in the morning with her vitamins and hip and joint pill. I will definately look into the suggestion.
 
solved the "rash" problem!

Well, I finally got my sheltie in to see the vet. The rash situation was under control by making sure she was completely dry in her under coat, but she had been having an eye issue. Her one eye would swell up and seem to have (I call it icky stuff)like sleepies but constant in her eye and would not go away. Here, believe it or not- it was not an eye problem at all. She has an abseos tooth! I got her on meds and the swelling has gone down and the eye cleared up! Now I have to come up with $650.00 to get the tooth out!
 
I am so happy about the rash, feel bad about the tooth though. Hopefully all goes well from here on out.
 
Must be a favourite amount these days. I just got the estimate for Tinsels work and it is also $650. Add to that getting the annual teeth done on the horses by one vet, vaccinations by another vet, a one ton load of bedding for the stalls, the farrier and Tinsel's training cost leads me to see Kraft dinner in my future. :-)
 
Help me out here - top ramen??? Not familiar with that. I went to a seminar with Dr. Anthony Yu from the University of Guelph yesterday on skin issues in westies. What a great seminar. He is a Professor of Dermatology and travels all over the world lecturing on the newest advancements in skin issues. Learned so much of what is new. If he comes to your area I would highly recommend you go and see him. I asked him about rotation diets and he was not a fan. He did say though that if you are breeding then you should have a sacrifice protein that you would feed the puppies until they were past their 1 year booster, or in my case 16 month booster, then never go back to that protein. He also said that you have to be really careful that you don't get the offending protein in things like bone meal, commonly found in a lot of dog foods. There was so much info that I couldn't possibly discuss it all here. I'm not dealing with an issue myself but I have several friends with dogs that are itching more than usual. Hopefully what I learned yesterday will be of benefit to them.
 
Shilo's appointment is made for April 10th. Hopefully I make it out of there a little cheaper!! She must be feeling better because she is starting to play a little like she used to. I do feel bad in a way, now knowing that she must have been in pain for awhile. She didn't make any signs though that she was hurting. No whimpering, nothing. She has a bit of arthritis, but that's expected at her age.
 
Shilo's tooth surgery

Hello! Shilo had her tooth surgery and everything went well. She had to get 2 teeth removed. Then they cleaned all her other teeth. Her bad breath is gone and she is feeling alot better! She has begun to play with her toys again and she loved playing ball outside, which she is slowly starting to do again. Her tooth must have hurt her terribly-poor girl! The total cost was $735.00.
 
Tagg can you private messafe me, my Max ( sheltie) has had skin issues with allergies, fungus and now an infection where his head is sensitive, skin is pink and smell awful. Had him to an allergist who has him on antibiotics for two weeks and altough the crustieness on his skin is gone everying else is the same. Did younpossibly learn anything about this?
