Sweet Little Lottie

So, Lottie has been with us a few days now. She is the sweetest girl ever!!

She peep and pooped day one, but since has really been holding it like a camel! She's afraid to go in the backyard for some reason. I have to coax her out and then she runs back in. But when it comes to the nitty gritty she runs out, pees fast and runs back in the house.

She has a very pronounced limp due to her injured foot. She often stands holding the foot up off the ground. However, she gets around pretty darn well! She has been greeting me at the door with the other two, although she waits nicely for attention and doesn't jump all over me! I'm hoping they learn from her rather than her learning from them.

She decided the wooden crate is ok afterall and now knows it's her special place. She'll go in there to avoid the pandamonium which is Meggie and Cooper!

All in all she seems content. She is bonding to my daughter who is staying with me for a week and is home all day. I hope the change when Nikki leaves doesn't make Lottie sad again! She is very happy to see me when I get home though because I'm the one feeding her. So hopefully that will make Nikki's departure more bearable.

It is uncomfortable for her to be in a regular sitting position so I was trying to decide what I should have her do to earn treats, etc. My daughter said, "I think you should just give her anything she wants because she is such a good girl and her life till now sucked!" It's hard to argue that opinion!

Lottie is precious! (And I love, love, love the big wood crate!) I adopted Bela about two months ago, and it's really hard not to just spoil them to death after the sad lives they've led up to this point. I just want to give Bela anything she wants to the point of giving her extremely bad habits!

Your little girl is very lucky to have a built-in pack! My girl is an "only", and misses other dogs terribly - to the point that I'm thinking of getting another Sheltie - maybe a puppy this time.

Miss Lottie has hit the jackpot! She looks so sweet and it sounds like she is just the doll you thought she'd be. Hooray!!!!

I am sad to hear her foot bothers her that much - may those kids rot that did that to her.

I'm glad she has settled in, gets along with your other two, and is affectionate with you. Hopefully she will feel more confident in your yard soon.

I was reading your other thread about your journey to bring Lottie home, and I'm so happy for you to have her home and it seems like she was a very lucky dog. I'm glad she is fitting into your pack so well, and to echo the sentiments from the other posters, the wooden crate is really nice! Now all you have to do is update your profile pic to include all three of your precious puppies!

What a cutie. Sounds like she'll fit in fine. I haven't caught up on the other thread to find out what happened to her foot but I assume it's something that will heal...? Maybe teach her a 'look' or 'watch' for now to earn a treat? Something she can do from any position. Altho' I'd be inclined to be like your daughter and treat her just for being When you wrote 'wooden crate' I was thinking of a beat up apple crate looking box...but that wooden crate is drop dead gorgeous! I'd love one like that for an end table in our living so 'poor' Clancy wouldn't have to lie on the cold hard floor

You can tell that is one VERY HAPPY, beautiful little girl. Perhaps her foot will improve with time. We love our "special needs" shelties even more!!

Actually, her foot is permanently damaged. She was shot in the foot by an abusive boy and her owners (a breeder!) didn't treat it. She lost a toe and another healed crooked. There also is some damage to one of her pads. I'm sure she has residual pain and she walks with a marked limp.

The breeder told the rescue that she is 6 years old. I think she is probably closer to 8 or 9. I'll see what my vet thinks in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for the comments on the crate. I saw a similar one in a SkyMall magazine and a friend of mine who works with wood reproduced it for me. I wanted something that looked like furniture instead of dog gear. This picture shows it in its entirety. That's Meggie as a pupper!!

She's beautiful and seems quite content in her room. Glad all is going well and I know it is bad but I would tend to agree with your daughter. I'm a real sucker for that Sheltie smile.
